For more than 20 years as a professional athlete, I’ve worked as much on my mental fitness as I have my physical fitness. Doing so allowed me the honor of holding every American record in running distances between 5K and the marathon, and representing the United States on 19 national teams. I'm an Olympic medalist, the American record holder in the marathon, and winner of the London and Chicago marathons.

A couple of years ago, I decided to write about the mental evolution of my career in the book, Let Your Mind Run: A Memoir of Thinking My Way To Victory. It became a New York Times Bestseller.

Since its release, I continue to run and race, but find great joy in motivational speaking and connecting with others who want to explore the fitness of their greatest asset—their mind.

Deena was wonderful!! Such amazing story telling and her tips for optimism and positivity were great. I especially appreciated how she explained how optimism affected her life and running career with specific examples. I'll admit I wasn't expecting too much from this presentation. Most optimism or self help presentations seem gimmicky, but Deena's presentation was excellent! She used her personal stories to make her point and share her tips and was able to do so in a way that left me inspired to continue the practice past her presentation. I would recommend this experience to anyone looking to enjoy life more or to "stop and smell the roses"!
