Ozokwenza

Japanese tea ceremony can be enjoyed not only in a Japanese traditional tatami-mat room but also at a table and chairs in your house!

Japanese tea ceremony is not only about making and drinking tasty matcha tea but also about calming the mind and the heart, focusing your heart on what's in front of you, and living in the moment. In a way, this is Zen meditation through tea. This experience is also great for team building.

In this online lesson, we will proceed as follows:

1) We first introduce ourselves. I would love to know how you got interested in Japanese tea ceremony.

2) I will explain the background history and the important basic philosophy of Zen Buddhism for better understanding of Japanese tea ceremony.

3) I will demonstrate the modern table tea ceremony, and if you have your own matcha set (detail listed below) please follow what I do and I will also explain tips to make a tasty matcha. In that case please prepare your matcha tea set prior to the session. But this is optional, so if you don't have any match tea set, please enjoy watching the choreographed movements, which are very calming.

4) Question and Answer time

Other things to note
Please remember to have your computer/phone/tablet charged or plugged.

Kana is the absolute best guide into the world of Japanese culture! I absolutely loved learning so much from her about the history of matcha, the philosophy of Zen, and tea ceremony rituals. The experience was so meditative and made my day! Can't recommend this experience enough, you will not regret it :)

Kana-san is absolutely wonderful. Her knowledge of the tea ceremony is amazingly deep. There is nothing better than her patient teaching and thoughtful interactions within the class. This is my second time attending because the first was so good--I had to come back to learn more! Take some time for yourself and learn to make tea with Kana-san. You will not be disappointed, but uplifted and centered a little better for these crazy days. A bright spot for sure! Kana-san is an absolute joy. I cannot wait for more...

Kana provides a great tea ceremony experience where she shows and explains every step and instructs you how to do it yourself at home. The meeting with her was very personal and interactive. We were lucky to have a private session where no other guests joined :) We could ask any questions and had great conversations. Although we are already very familiar with japanese tea and matcha, we learned a lot about the background of matcha and how to improve our daily tea preparation. I would recommend this experience to anyone - the price-value-ratio is very good!

Highly recommend this experience! I recently got a matcha set from Ippodo and this intro to Japanese tea ceremony was perfect for helping me use and fully appreciate everything in the set. Kana is very patient, a great communicator and demonstrator, and I love that there is a story session before enjoying the tea to learn about the significance of matcha and tea ceremony as a cultural practice. Very meaningful to learn about the cultural significance and zen mentality as these things tend to get washed out when becoming mainstream.

Kana is a great hostess. She welcomes everyone with care and patience, explains the contents in detail and beautifully executes the art of the tea ceremony. We loved the experience and highly recommend it.
