Ozokwenza

Do you know what defines the Arctic circle?

Arctic circle marks the northernmost point at which the center of the noon sun is just visible on the December solstice.

This means that during the polar night period (mid November - mid February) you can experience the sun rise followed by the sun set in an instant. For me, the red sun that peeks at the horizon just to go down again has always been a bigger spectacle than the Borealis, so naturally this miracle – the Polar Sun – is something I want to show and share with You.

But before the main event heres what we will do:
– Pick up at 9.00 sharp.
– 10 mins drive to Ounasvaara.
– 10-15 mins walk through the woods to the First Tower.
– 1hr free hanging by the tower where you enjoy the views, the wicket, the fire and the surrounding nature while I prepare your brunch.
– You enjoy the Brunch
– A little walk to an excellent downhill sledging place -> change for some serious sledging!
– 15 mins drive and a small hike to the Second Tower on top of Syväsenvaara
– The Polar Sun (If the skies are willing)
– The Surprise
– I will drop you of where you want to go
Other things to note
The car we use is a 2017 Dacia Duster 4x4.
I have warm clothes & shoes to borrow but they are not the latest fashion.
I have a sledge for you.

When I was young I worked as an elf in the Santa village; hence this experience is arranged by a professional, whose curriculum vitae ends with the job title "Official Adjutant of Santa Claus."

Born and raised in Rovaniemi I have done a fair share of traveling always thinking what to do, see, understand and experience in a new place. Putting together these two - my knowledge of Rovaniemi and Lapland & my experience as a traveler – led me to build these unique and diverse experiences for You. It makes me proud to be able to share the best of what Rovaniemi and Lapland have to offer.

The experience with Antti was the highlight of our trip. A great experience in the surroundings of Rovaniemi, away from the crowds. Perfect if you want to stay away from the overly touristic places as Antti is providing a more private experience. He prepared us a great breakfast and also gave us 2 sleighs for some additional fun. Antti was very personable (not a typical Finnish trait as you will find out), allow us to enjoy at our own pace and was able to provide great advice both before and during our trip. We would definitely recommend the activity .

This was an amazing experience! Even though we didn’t get to see the sun due to the heavy clouds, the whole experience was simply fantastic—from the meal, the trek to the towers, the conversations and the settings! My kids and I had a wonderful time!

We had a fun experience with Antti. He was very helpful and his knowledge about Finnish culture enhanced the experience. He made a great effort to provide vegan options and the surprise in the end was very tasty 😊. We would recommend this to anyone that travels to Rovaniemi

Awesome experience - the highlights of Part One: the walk to the first tower, the scenic view of the city n woods, a perfect campfire with a heartwarming brunch of sausages, coffee, blueberry juice and blueberry toasted bread, and the finale of the sleighing. An excellent start leading into Part Two: a short hike to the second tower and a great finale of Polar Sun, city views, beautiful snow and Koskenkorva to warm us up. Antti is a knowlegable guide who made this trip fun and enjoyable Thank you for making this a memorable tour for us. Suitable for everyone.

We had a wonderful guided walk through snowy forest with Antti who told us lots of fascinating history and stories about Lapland as we sat around the campfire and barbecued food as the local Finnish families also do. We had great fun tobogganing and also saw wild reindeer on the second part of the forest trip. All in all this was a great introduction by a local to the snowy landscape and forest, and Finnish outdoor life. Highly recommended!

Visiting Lapland is surely magical. if you are in Rovaniemi and wish to explore beyond the popular town and the infamous theme park, I would say this is a fantastic way to do so. Antti is a local and with this Polar sun experience he introduces you to the woods. You can go over to the towers to get a glimpse of the land stretching out far, see the polar sun, get a taste of the local food made on the traditional fire, and also see the twinkling city lights. And if like me, you have just about 24 hours in the city, you can do this and also visit the Santa theme park set up for the tourists and get time to walk around the town of Rovaniemi as well. Do remember to gear up well to enjoy the time outdoors and get ready to have some authentic welcome to the Lappish woods (small fells or big hills) of Rovaniemi.
