Ozokwenza

This is not a regular city walk, but a passage through a town frozen in time. It will give you an insight into the current situation of the Buffer Zone “Green Line” off the beaten track, on streets that are hard to discover without the experience of a local guide. You will see the Venetian walls and how they form a boarder around the Old City, so unusual that once seen on a map will never be forgotten as a design synonymous with the unique shape of this ancient fortification.
On our walk we will explore the Southern side of the city and follow the infamous “Green line” that cuts through the centre, separating the city into southern and northern sections. This division has kept the two major communities, of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots apart for more than four decades. Our journey begins at the Ledra Palace Hotel known in its era as the largest and most majestic hotels of the capital.
You will witness life having evolved along either side of this schism, something once impossible to do until recent agreements between the two sides to open border crossings. We will explore Ledra Street located at heart of the aforementioned walled city now once again rekindled to one of the most popular pedestrian commercial streets accented by abandoned buildings reclaimed by nature through decades of lost time scarred by bullet holes, military outposts and barricades.
Other things to note
Kindly note that our walk could last between 3.5-4 hours with our break, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes!

Group Tours are also offered with a slightly varied itinerary, tailored to your needs. Please ask for details and all arrangements can be made.

Greetings, my name is Eleni and I am an Outdoor Life Coach, walking group leader & guide.

I love nothing more than sharing the sights, sounds, and secrets of streets rarely discovered. I've been leading recreational walks for many years and I’ve always noticed how different I feel when I spend time outdoors: grounded, creative, and renewed.

I enjoy connecting and showing people around this great city and I feel the best way to connect is on foot!

The intention is to leave you with an insider’s perspective of Nicosia, the last divided Capital City in Europe.

Lapho uzoba khona

During the morning walk, we shall take a short break at a traditional Cypriot pastry and coffee shop serving locals for over 76 years, where you will delight in the melt-in-your-mouth pastries, of which their cheese and Cypriot traditional Croissant' are to die for!
If you choose to include the afternoon/evening walk we will visit a Kafeneio-bar situated right on the Buffer Zone and enjoy some local beer.

Ilinganiswe ku-5.0 kokungu-5 ngokusuka kokushiwo abanye okungu-70.

Eleni was so personable and we really enjoyed the tour with her. We learned so much about the history of Cyprus and had a lot of fun doing it! It really felt like just walking & talking with a (really knowledgeable) friend. We highly recommend this tour with Eleni—it’s been one of the best tours we’ve ever been on!

We cannot express how lovely the walking tour with Eleni was! Eleni is a very open and kind person with a beautiful soul! She is very passionate about Nicosia and its unique situation- we learnt a lot about the history of the division between Greek and Turkish Cyprus, as well as the present day situation. We also saw many hidden gems in the city and received many recommendations which we then visited that same evening and had a wonderful time! It was a true pleasure to spend the day with Eleni, the walking tour included a stop at a historic and amazing bakery where we tried delicious Cypriot snacks and they surprised my partner with a cake for her birthday which Eleni had planned! Such a sweet thing to do and my girlfriend was really touched! Overall a really wonderful experience which we cannot recommend more!

It is always 'great' when the guide can tell a story from her own experiences. You could feel the pain from the past, but also the hope for the future. I think we've seen most of the wall and we got a lot of tips. Eleni is a great guide. I would highly recommend the tour, especially when you want to understand a 'current conflict'

I have really enjoyed my tour with Eleni. You get to see beautiful spots and the history behind them. We stopped at an authentic bakery where we had 2 snacks and a Cypriot coffee, all of them tasted very good! She also showed lesser known places like a hidden church or a great place to have some really tasty local food :) I really recommend to do this tour with Eleni if you are looking for great conversations, good energy and beautiful locations!

Eleni was a perfect host! It was great to get the history of the buffer zone from someone who has a personal connection with the conflict and a hope for the future.
