Parrots in Paradise Sanctuary
Every parrot has a story. You’ll learn all about our rainbow-colored rescues in Kona’s only parrot sanctuary.
We’ll start with our mission: to give every displaced parrot a nutritious diet, large space to fly, and a safe place to interact with other parrots (and people).
Next, we'll take a walk around the sanctuary, where you can get to know the range of personalities of cockatoos, lovebirds, macaws, and more species.
Throughout the tour, you will have many photo opportunities, especially with our well-trained parrots.
Other things to note:
Wear casual clothes, closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat, and bring a camera. Parrots in Paradise Sanctuary is also home to two rescue dogs, two Holstein cows and two sulcata tortoise.
While we like to keep our group sizes small to enhance a personal experience, we are open to hosting larger family/friend groups with more than six individuals.
Chocolate Coffee & Vanilla Farm Tour
Aloha and Welcome as we gather around the information table at Sharkey's 100-year old farmhouse in the historic plantation village of Papaikou. Sample our freshly brewed 100% Hawaiian coffee or cacao tea, grown right here on the farm. From there we begin an easy walk through our orchards where you'll learn about Hawaiian coffee growth and production. Interwoven the coffee are rows of cacao trees. Depending on the time of year, you can usually see tiny flowers and large, multi-colored pods hanging from trunks and branches. Long, heavy vanilla vines grow up the cacao trees, nature's perfect trellis! We'll show you how each vanilla orchid is delicately hand-pollinated to produce long "hands" of vanilla beans. We'll then proceed to the "Slab" where the pods are 'cracked' before the fermentation process. Next we move into the greenhouse where flats of newly planted seedlings just beginning their journey grow alongside large screens filled with coffee and cacao beans slowly drying to perfection. Finally we'll move into our certified Chocolate Kitchen where the Magic happens! Who wants a taste? Free samples!

Exclusive Hike/UTV to Hualālai Craters
An exclusive (5 person max) cultural experience that includes access via UTV then a moderate hike with Kimo, your Native Hawaiian host. Experience Hualālai mountain craters as few ever have!
High above Kona, hidden in the clouds, lies this unique place. Come journey through craters, drylands forest, and historic lava flows amongst native birds and plants. This is not a tour, it's a cultural educational experience in this Sacred Place on private lands not open to the public.
You will have the opportunity to support the reforestation of Hualalai back by planting a Native Hawaiian tree. An experience to be cherished forever. In addition, 100% of proceeds go towards supporting the non-profit that supports this area.
If you want to experience the unique cultural and natural resources of Hualalai, then this exclusive experience is for you. I look forward to meeting you!
The weather is unpredictable here so be prepared for both hot and cold weather. The fog and clouds may come in at any moment, but, the magic of walking in the clouds is surreal.
Other things to note
Consider your health and safety. This is a 90 minute hike at a high elevation on uneven, jagged rocky ground. Craters have high cliffs and children must be monitored at all times.
Cow Cuddle Therapy
Our pasture is located in Honomu, about 20 minutes from Hilo.
Our Cow Cuddle Therapy starts with a basic safety tutorial, and then we enter the paddock to meet the cows. After a brief introduction we will then:
-Pet cows
-Hug cows
-Lay Down and Cuddle Cows!
-Learn all about cows, their milk, and how they benefit the garden and the environment!
(Note: we are a sanctuary for cows we never sell or kill any bovines. We do milk cows, but only the excess milk the calves cant drink. We call this cruelty-free dairy! In the past we have had vegan guests that loved the experience, but also have had upset vegan guests, so this is just a full disclosure!)
Polynesian Drum- and Firedancing class
We meet at the Kauai Inn and I explain the instruments (drums) we're going to play. We start with simple beats and practice as long as everybody gets it. No worries if you never have been drumming before in your life. I also explain what the drums stand for in the community and how they were used in ancient Hawaii.
After one hour of drumming, we start practicing the firedancing. The boys with the samoan fireknife and the girls with the mauri poiballs. We practice without fire for a while and who ever wants to light it on fire, is very welcome to try it (no worries I'll help you). You can take nice pictures and videos while performing with fire.
Other things to note
And again, if you are beginners, never drum or played with fire in your entire life, don't worry, in my class are all levels of drummer and firedancer from 5 years to 70 years old!
Kauai Nectar Beekeeping Adventure
During the Kauai Nectar adventure...
We will spend about an hour exploring the hives, our tasks being dictated by whatever the hives need each day. Including:
Collecting Pollen
Shifting boxes
Examining hives & their occupants
You will have the opportunity to learn about the biology, life cycles, and societal structures of the beehives.
We will finish the morning with local raw honey and pollen tasting. You'll leave with your very own jar of honey from one of Kauai Nectar’s apiaries.
We do have an age limit for this tour, if your child does not meet the requirement, please request a private tour! We are happy to invite younger children to visit the bees, the limit is only to accommodate other guests during a group tour.
Other things to note:
You will sweat in the bee suit, wear light comfortable clothing, close-toed shoes, long socks.
We will meet at the Apiary, located in Kapa'a directly across from Kealia Beach. We share the property with multiple local farmers including a functioning Cacao farm that we incorporate into our line of infused honeys. The bee's live shaded under a lush canopy of beautiful old Acacia Monkeypod Trees.
Bambooforesthike + making instrument
We meet at Makaleha mountain and hike to gather some water from the fresh water spring. We hike another 10minutes to harvest bamboo. I have been making bambooflutes for 20 years so I know exactly what we can use (age, size, color). Every person can pick their own to make an instrument. I explain what is important to know about cutting bamboo. I also explain all the native plants around us - which you can eat or use for healing. I do “La’au Lapaau” which is Hawaiian medicine. I survived 2 years out in the jungle with that knowledge - eating off the land. The hiking part is over and we drive back tomy house, where everybody is making their own noseflute or other instrument. They drill and burn the holes and I help them to find sound.
For a snack we serve fresh Kalo (Taro), Sweet Potatoes (Ualaa), Avocados or coconut candy.
Opening coconuts, Drumming and weaving optional, if we have some time left and if the guests are interested in doing that.
Other things to note
It's a short hike on a muddy trail. We also have to cross a river. The hike is not longer than 30min all in all and also kids can do it.

Kīlauea hike and lava gazing with Native Hawaiian
Aloha pūmehana kākou!
'O Christian Kealohapau'oleokealiiahōkūlani
Phillips ko'u inoa. My name is Christian, and I am a native Hawaiian student at the University of Hawaii studying culture, language, history, astronomy, geology, and oceanography of the Hawaiian islands. The culture and ways of these islands is one of fun, adventure, love, family, sustainability, and I believe it will save the world.
This Hawaiʻi immersive experience takes place in Hawaiʻi volcanoes national park!
I will be guiding you through the fauna and beauties of the national park, exploring the trails and lava formations, and teaching you about the history of Kīlauea volcano and our native Hawaiian birds.
As darkness falls and the stars emerge from the heavens we will travel the path of Keanakakoʻi on Kīlauea. On the path we will be engulfed by the beauty of volcanic ecosystems from vibrant forests to majestic barren lava flows. As we travel I will share the history and stories of the Hawaiian goddess Pele and teach you about Hawaiian astronomy. Upon the completion of our trek we will have arrived at a cliff point that allows us to look into the crater of Halemaʻumaʻu and it’s growing lake of lava that continues to grow our island of Hawaiʻi every day. Hawaiʻi is truly alive.
