Who is a tour guide and what registration rules apply when I am a tour guide?
While the tour guide profession has been recently liberalized, official authorization is still needed for tour guides for some sites within Barcelona. Authorized tour guides are required to register with the Tourism Register of Catalonia when tourist information services are offered in museums, monuments, or historic sites that have been declared cultural property of national interest (as stated here). The Registry of Museums of Catalonia is a dynamic list that is updated constantly, and Hosts can inquire directly with the site they seek to tour. The government has compiled a helpful guide to their museums and contact information for planning tours through an app that you can find here. If you need information about other locations, the Generalitat de Catalunya website is the best place to check for relevant details that may apply to your Experience.
Is there anything else I should know when I give guided tours?
Yes. Hosts who have questions or are otherwise unsure and need further information should contact their local city authority, or seek advice from a legal professional. You may also consider consulting an insurance broker or specialist to find out what coverages you may want to take out.
