Registration requirements

Anyone who hosts short-term stays (120 consecutive nights or less) in Anne Arundel County is required to register their short-term rental with the County. Short-term residential rentals within the City of Annapolis are not required to register with the County.

Long term stays, hotels and motels are exempt from registering as short-term rentals. If your listing is exempt, you don’t need to register, but you will still need to claim an exemption through Airbnb to keep hosting.

You are limited to registering up to two properties. If you have more than two properties, one or more of your properties is not eligible as a short-term rental, you can change those listings to long-term stays, which in Anne Arundel County is defined as 121 or more consecutive nights.

Step 1: Get a short-term residential rental registration number

Start the registration process on the County’s website

Complete the Short Term Residential Rental Registration form and print out the form. Do not sign the form yet. You will need to take the form to a notary, where you will sign the form and receive the Notary’s signature and seal.

On January 26, 2021, an emergency ordinance went into effect reducing the fee to register or renew a short-term residential rental from $400.00 to $100.00 for a two-year term. The ordinance will remain in effect until the County terminates, repeals, or otherwise revokes it.

After the County processes your application, you’ll receive your Short Term Residential Rental Registration number. This process could take a few weeks.

Step 2: Add your registration number to your listing

Add the registration number to your Airbnb listing to finalize your registration with the County.
