Polynesian Drum- and Firedancing class
We meet at the Kauai Inn and I explain the instruments (drums) we're going to play. We start with simple beats and practice as long as everybody gets it. No worries if you never have been drumming before in your life. I also explain what the drums stand for in the community and how they were used in ancient Hawaii.
After one hour of drumming, we start practicing the firedancing. The boys with the samoan fireknife and the girls with the mauri poiballs. We practice without fire for a while and who ever wants to light it on fire, is very welcome to try it (no worries I'll help you). You can take nice pictures and videos while performing with fire.
Other things to note
And again, if you are beginners, never drum or played with fire in your entire life, don't worry, in my class are all levels of drummer and firedancer from 5 years to 70 years old!
Kauai Nectar Beekeeping Adventure
During the Kauai Nectar adventure...
We will spend about an hour exploring the hives, our tasks being dictated by whatever the hives need each day. Including:
Collecting Pollen
Shifting boxes
Examining hives & their occupants
You will have the opportunity to learn about the biology, life cycles, and societal structures of the beehives.
We will finish the morning with local raw honey and pollen tasting. You'll leave with your very own jar of honey from one of Kauai Nectar’s apiaries.
We do have an age limit for this tour, if your child does not meet the requirement, please request a private tour! We are happy to invite younger children to visit the bees, the limit is only to accommodate other guests during a group tour.
Other things to note:
You will sweat in the bee suit, wear light comfortable clothing, close-toed shoes, long socks.
We will meet at the Apiary, located in Kapa'a directly across from Kealia Beach. We share the property with multiple local farmers including a functioning Cacao farm that we incorporate into our line of infused honeys. The bee's live shaded under a lush canopy of beautiful old Acacia Monkeypod Trees.
Become a Farmer On a Native Hawaiian Organic Family Farm
Come help out on a native Hawaiian owned organic family farm! Please note that our sons may be available to play music but this is not guaranteed although guests reviews will mention this. You will learn some history of Hawaiian lands, plants and agriculture as you give back to the island and do something unique! Enter an ancient volcano on Hawaiian Homestead & learn Agriculture & History. Help shape & tend this family-owned organic chocolate farm of exotic trees, flowers, miniature horses, pygmy goats, & silky chicks. The farm always needs tending, from pulling weeds to planting, to watering plants or trimming trees. We need help to water over 1,000 plants by hand every other day. We will provide you with plenty of filtered water. Join us to work hard together and we will end with a tour of the farm. You will need transportation as Lyft and Uber don’t come here or charge a lot to do so, buses are not reliable and biking is impossible as the roads are too narrow. Our family farm is located in a Rainforest and we work rain or shine as it is still warm & comfortable. Wear beach shoes & old clothes or beachwear is fine, there are outdoor restrooms where you can wash up when the work is done. You will work at your own pace and can rest or take shade as you need. Please note that online maps take you just past our farm so look for the tall blue and white surfboards by the gates!
Create A Beautiful Hawaiian Lei Po'o
We are excited to teach you you how to create your own unique lei po'o (flower crown). You will choose your own tropical flowers and create a unique and beautiful custom piece made with fresh flowers. All of our flowers are locally sourced from local gardens and we support local farmers. We also provide high quality local store bought flowers such as torch ginger, cymbidium orchids, anthuriums, etc. Our workshop is high end because we use high end flowers and natural materials sourced from Polynesia (Lauhala leaves from Tahiti). Your leis will last 3-4 days and will enrich your Hawaii experience tenfold.
While making your lei, I will share the cultural meanings of our leis and why we wear them in Hawai'i. I am born and raised in Laie, Hawaii and have lived here for 27 years. I am passionate about my culture and I would love to share it with you.
All of our lei po'os can be seen on our IG page, @oahuleis. Check it out and we look forward to meeting you!
Bambooforesthike + making instrument
We meet at Makaleha mountain and hike to gather some water from the fresh water spring. We hike another 10minutes to harvest bamboo. I have been making bambooflutes for 20 years so I know exactly what we can use (age, size, color). Every person can pick their own to make an instrument. I explain what is important to know about cutting bamboo. I also explain all the native plants around us - which you can eat or use for healing. I do “La’au Lapaau” which is Hawaiian medicine. I survived 2 years out in the jungle with that knowledge - eating off the land. The hiking part is over and we drive back tomy house, where everybody is making their own noseflute or other instrument. They drill and burn the holes and I help them to find sound.
For a snack we serve fresh Kalo (Taro), Sweet Potatoes (Ualaa), Avocados or coconut candy.
Opening coconuts, Drumming and weaving optional, if we have some time left and if the guests are interested in doing that.
Other things to note
It's a short hike on a muddy trail. We also have to cross a river. The hike is not longer than 30min all in all and also kids can do it.

The Story of Hawaii's Rain Forest
Explore Oahu's rain forest used in Jurassic Park, Lost!, and Aquaman 2. We'll use the spectacular Lyon Arboretum in Moana Valley as our entry into the jungle. Only 30 guest slots/day are allowed to hike in this private nature reserve.
Along with the lush tropical foliage you've always imagined, you'll see how plants battle each other for survival in the crowded rain forest: Poisons, strangling, blocking sunlight, symbiotic relationships with insects and spectacular flowers are just some of the ways to compete when light, warmth and rain are no longer a limiting factor for survival.
We'll introduce you to the "canoe plants" that the Polynesians brought to Hawaii, such as taro, hala, and the kukui. Even coconut trees were brought to Hawaii by the Polynesians.
Stunning mountain vistas are visible through clearings in the rain forest which becomes more wild as we approach Aihualama Falls (seasonal) in back of the valley. If you're lucky, you'll hear the song of the shama, the nightingale of our forest or the squawk of the large cockatoo parrots that live in this area.
NOTE 1: Tours depart rain or shine. Children ages 8-11 are welcome, but parents must use discretion if they can be trusted to stay on the trail for their own safety.
NOTE 2: If Lyon Arboretum is unavailable, we'll use a nearby trail or you can request a full refund.
Paint the Mokuluas in Lanikai
Once we meet at the front gate of the property, I'll provide a brief tour and history of the family estate. Tables and chairs will be arranged near a private beach for the group to enjoy a view of the Mokulua Islands. I will spend an hour or two instructing how to paint the unique seascape one brush stroke at a time. All materials are provided and everyone takes home their painting.
Other things to note:
Beginners are welcome and completely capable of enjoying this experience. Even if you have never picked up a paint brush, you will have a great time learning the techniques of an artist.
We will be painting plein air (outdoors), so be ready for sunshine.

Discover coral reef creatures at night
The ocean is a wonderous and magical place with creatures that often seem more incredible than what we could conjure up in our own imaginations. Come with me and my Co-Host Levi as we search for and encounter the incredible creatures that make up Hawaii's nocturnal marine life.
We will meet up in the evening at Sharks Cove on the North Shore of Oahu. Our exciting experience begins on the shore. We will talk story about the unique and wondrous marine ecosystems of Hawaii as well as give you some safety tips so we have an exceptional, fun and safe experience.
When we are done talking story we will get our underwater lights, mask and snorkels, and reef shoes and head into the water to search for the nocturnal marine animals in the tidal areas of Sharks Cove. Most of these unique creatures we will be looking for can only be found after dark. We talk about every unique animal we encounter.
After a wonderous time in the water we will head back to the shore and get cleaned up with a hot shower i provide on location.
after our experience is concluded I will be providing previously captured photos of all the amazing animals we will see for your own keep sake.
This experience is perfect for groups, families or individuals. No swimming experience needed but guests should be comfortable on uneven ground and being in shallow water.
Honolulu's Historic City Center
A walk in Honolulu's Capital District transports you back in time to the 19th century and the monumental historic events that transformed Hawaii from a traditional Polynesian society to a modern territory of the United States in 80 years.
We begin our exploration at the Missionary Houses, Kawaiaha'o Church and King Lunalilo's mausoleum to learn about the arrival of the Protestant missionaries from Boston and why the Kamehameha royal dynasty replaced their ancient religion with Christianity overnight.
Next, at the statue of King Kamehameha the Great we will hear some of the stories of this great king that united the islands. The Ali'iolani Building (the "Hawaii Five-0 headquarters") which the statue fronts is the site where Queen Lili'u'okalani, the last monarch of Hawaii, was deposed.
Next, we'll cover the legacy of King Kalakaua, "the Merrie Monarch" at Iolani Palace, the only royal palace in the United States before we tour Hawaii's current state capital building.
We conclude the walk at St. Andrews Cathedral, the Episcopalian Church built by King Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma during their attempt to transfer control away from the United States. The largest stain glass window made in the United States up until that time with its controversial "surfing Jesus" fronts the cathedral.
Note: The tour starts at 9:15AM and ends at 11:15AM.
