Forge a Silver Ring with a Silversmith
In this workshop, you'll make a sterling silver ring through the silversmithing "fabrication" technique. Learn the basics of texturing metal, forming metal with mandrels and hammers, soldering (yes, you'll play with fire!), and decorative finishing and leave with a beautiful handmade ring that will last a lifetime! This is not just some craft project. You will be working on the same tools that I use myself as a professional silversmith and your ring will be professional quality. It's always a fun evening! You'll be floored by what you can create! Other things to note: You will get plenty of ideas for rings during the class. I also encourage you to look at the photos in this experience as well as guest photos for ideas!
Explore Dazzling Architecture Interiors of the Chicago Loop
Take the architecture tour voted #1 by TripAdvisor users! We will be taking a leisurely 2-hour walk exploring some of the most beautiful and often overlooked buildings in downtown Chicago, both outside and inside, and learning about the most important and interesting parts of Chicago's architectural history. Visitors often don't know where to go, or even where they're allowed. This experience takes them inside places they'd never even consider, to show off more than 100 years of architecture as it developed here in the Windy City -- including stunning stained glass, atrium-like spaces, 19th century skyscrapers, and more! Great tour for photographers and travel buffs! Some things to note: Bring a camera -- this is an AWESOME way to practice your architecture photography! Also, dress for the weather, and if it's raining, bring an umbrella. Also, please note that if you provide a non-US phone number as your day-of contact number, we **CANNOT** call you if you're lost or late!
Sail Chicago's Lakefront on a Yacht
Our sailing experience begins at Monroe Harbor right in downtown Chicago. Guests will enjoy a captained cruise on our sailing yacht, a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 37. We will cast off and motor out to Lake Michigan where we will set sail to a favorable course. Bring your favorite food and drinks, listen to music, relax, and take in the views of our city’s iconic buildings from the lakefront. The courageous can try their hand at the helm and rigging the sails-Captain Greg is a volunteer sailing instructor for a local non-profit and enjoys sharing his knowledge. On hot days be sure to bring a bathing suit to swim in the lake to cool off. Please feel free to inquire about custom bookings. We have hosted engagements, bachelorette parties, corporate outings and many more memorable events! Things to note: Other Airbnb guests will potentially join your public booking unless you reserve the entire boat privately. There are six open spots on a first book first serve basis. We only wait 15 minutes at the dock for a late guest out of courtesy for timely guests. We only cancel for lightning and will refund everyone. If you tend to get motion/seasick, or have a hangover, take motion medication 30 minutes prior.
Chicago Bike Adventures
We'll meet at my bike loaner HQ in the heart of Chicago's Wicker Park where we'll discuss the day's ride and get comfortable riding together. Then, I will lead you on a 4 hour custom bike ride through several Chicago neighborhoods. We'll ride under the historic "L" train, visit several of the city's neighborhoods (historically diverse and modernly hip), get a taste of Chicago's craft beer scene (if requested) and see Chicago's wide range of architectural styles and oddities, parks, 1920s gangster related sites, great skyscraper views, movie locations, cluster of early 1900s movable bridges, and street art. No tour will be the same as it will be adjusted according to your responses to the pre-ride questionnaire. ** I have a small number of older model loaner bikes available for people who do not have one their own. If you prefer to rent newer bikes I can offer some suggestions.** ***As a general rule, unless the next day forecast is for all day thunderstorms, we wait until the morning of to make the final call to cancel. I don't normally cancel the ride if just a shower or two are forecasted. Sometimes we have coordinated with all riders to move the time up or back an hour to avoid bad weather. If a downpour does come during a ride we can wait it out over a snack or a brief look inside a place.*** ****Private groups large than 4 contact me directly. We can set it up.**

Guided Horseback Trail Ride
Let us guide you on a peaceful and personal trail ride across our 82-acre equestrian farm. We absolutely love all of our horses and one of our greatest joys is sharing them with our guests. Whether or not you have any riding experience, we would love to have you visit us. In fact, this is a small group ride geared towards complete beginners. We have horses capable of carrying people up to 200 pounds. We start by meeting the horses that you will be riding that day. It's important to say hi, get a feel for each other's energy, and bond a bit over a nice brushing before getting in the saddle. Next, we will give a beginner lesson on how to start, stop, and steer your horse. This lesson on the basics of riding is also a bonding time with you and your new friend. We will spend approximately half an hour in our indoor riding arena before venturing out onto the trails. Only when everyone in the group feels comfortable will we leave the arena. Our trail ride will take us across fields, pastures, into the woods, marshland, and tree line trails, providing plenty of opportunities for wildlife viewing. There are very few ways to immerse yourself in nature that can compare to the back of a horse. Don't see your desired date? Feel free to request a time and we can see if we can make it happen! Please do not hesitate to send a message with any questions! We hope to see you soon! Min age 14.
Get Inside Chicago's Most Stunning Art Deco Masterpieces
Everyone loves Art Deco, with all the elegance, glam, and glitz of the 1920s and 1930s. This 2-hour walking tour explores the interiors and exteriors of gorgeous buildings from this surprisingly brief architectural period in Chicago, with some interesting details and stories about life in that era. Flappers, gangsters, jazz, speakeasies — we'll pepper those throughout our larger exploration of Chicago's magnificent Art Deco buildings in order to truly set the context for you! You’ll walk in the footsteps of those high on the potential of the future, before the infamous Crash of ‘29. You’ll understand why the Art Deco style is so timeless — why even for us, it has a stunning beauty that inspires us to this day. You’ll learn to look at this architectural style especially as a form of “marketing” for the ambitious people inside; you’ll put yourselves in the shoes of people whose focus was on the future, and whose architecture showed it. Fall back in time, and enjoy these interior spaces reminiscent of Metropolis, The Great Gatsby, and even Gotham City (we’ll explain that one…). Staying almost entirely within the downtown Loop neighborhood, we’ll explore the elegance of this fascinating period in Chicago's history.
Mushroom foraging class
After we meet at the pavilion next to the Eddy Discovery Center, we will read the map and prepare for the hike. I will make sure that we have enough snacks and water. During the hike, we will talk about the local history, the ecology of the forest, and I will answer questions. I'm very familiar with these trails and chose the Eddy Discovery Center because of the varied terrain, diverse flora, unique photogenic locations, and many opportunities to see wildlife. Other things to note Please wear waterproof shoes and weather-appropriate clothes, we will be outside for 3 hours.
Cow Cuddles, a Bovine Therapy & Dinner
We will visit our beautiful family of rescued cows. They’re a bit non-traditional for American pets, but they are definitely furry, and super cute. They just love attention. We will spend time petting, feeding, brushing, and hugging them, sometimes, cuddling with them. If you are lucky, then we will show you how to milk them too! Great For Groups and Team Building. When you book a session with the cows it will be about getting close to the natural world, slowing down, taking time to breathe, and experiencing something new & exciting! We’ll tell you about their personalities, their likes & dislikes, and funny things they like to do. Cows are sentient beings, they are individuals just like you, and it’s wonderful to get to know them. We will be there with you to create a safe environment for everyone involved. After the cows have licked you to your satisfaction, we shall serve a warm and delicious Vegan dinner. You would go back filled to the brim both in the heart and stomach. How to dress? -Make sure you wear shoes with closed toes (no flipflops or slippers) -Dress in clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Note: Birthdays, graduation, and wedding parties - we handle all small or large groups. We can also provide catering with our award-winning vegetarian restaurant - Gora's Grill.
Homestead Tour with Goats through the Woods
**Spring and Winter hikes** Check the weather! Bring your mudboots and warm attire if needed. We might be hiking through snow and/or mud! Every morning at 10 am our goat herd is released from their over night paddock to forage through our wooded dune lands. The farm is surrounded by the county’s recreational public Manistee forest with hundreds of acres of pure Michigan nature along beautiful sandy hiking trails. Guests begin the hike at the rendezvous goat barn with the goats. Here is where our goats can be pet and introduced, starting the hour long easy walking trail hike. During this gentle jaunt through the woods our guests will get to know our friendly goats by being able to hand feed treats, learn what shrubs are the goats’ favorite forage, and have any extra belongings (such as a water bottle) be panniered by our goats. Although this experience is routinely beginning every morning, sometimes we can flexibly arrange our goat hikes to start at anytime from 8am till noon. Our hike does wind in and off of our farm property as well so our guests will be given stories of farm life and all the ins and outs of what it takes to raise these wonderful creatures.

Kayaking the Manistee River with Locals
Enjoy an exciting day kayaking the beautiful north Branch and main Manistee River in Kalkaska County, Michigan! As locals we offer an exciting and engaging experience that you will not find with any canoe livery or kayak rental. We take you on an Adventure! We will start at C&A Adventure in Fife Lake, Michigan. We will begin by determining your skill level, review safety measures, fit you for the right kayak, and go over kayak river skills. Next, we will have you follow us with your vehicle to the end point (when finished you will have your car). We will return to C&A Adventure and begin our experience on the north branch of the Manistee which is not a regularly kayaked river due to no public access. There are multiple portages with a few technical areas, which can be an awesome experience for those looking for a challenge. It also allows for you to take in the beauty not experienced by many. Our paddle will begin with the north branch of the Manistee River where it confluences with the Main branch of the Manistee River. The time to reach this point will be dependent on skill level for portaging and technical skills. Once we reach the confluence you will enjoy a nice, relaxing paddle to our lunch spot. Once we have completed lunch and you have enjoyed frolicking in the river we will continue paddling to the final destination, at the sandbanks on Dutch John Rd.
