Oxford's famous and hidden gems
Oxford’s city centre is a concentration of all you want to know. Within a relatively small area there are hundreds of years of history which we will be experiencing by walking for a couple of hours.
We will tour the famous sights and learn about the culture, reasons and history behind what we see. We will hear about the famous Oxford personalities, who shaped the world and learn about their world. We will also discover more hidden places, the ones tourists (and many locals) don’t know about.
I will point out the locations of world famous films and the stunning hidden architecture.
This is a tour for very small groups as I want you to feel comfortable and able to ask questions. If there is any particular requirement, just ask and I will do my utter best to accommodate you. Most of the times, it would be your own private tour.
We will meet outside the Randolph Hotel, on Beaumont Street, opposite the Ashmolean Museum and start our adventure from there.
Other things to note
My tours are suitable for families and children under 2 come for free. We will be passing many shops during our walk where you can buy drinks and snacks if needed.
This tour is wheelchair and child friendly.

Whisky and Folklore
We meet just off the iconic Royal Mile at a cafe/bar called Hot Toddy. We have the entire downstairs area reserved for us, ensuring lots of space for the group. During the course of two hours we will sample four outstanding Single Malt Scotch Whiskies from the four major whisky producing regions of Scotland. We will discus some of the history of Scotland and explore the reasons as to why whisky is now so ingrained as a staple of Scottish culture and we have some great tales from Scotland and the world of whisky to share with you.
Other things to note
This tour departs promptly and we can not wait for guests who are late. You must meet us at our start point at least 15min before the tour departs to secure your space.
People under the age of 18 are not permitted on this tour. This is due to licencing at the venue we use.

Skip the line tour of Edinburgh Castle
This tour includes a little of The Royal Mile and a lot of The Castle. Set aside time after your tour to explore. The price advertised does not include the entrance price to the castle, this is because some people book their own tickets in advance. You can purchase castle tickets directly from us at the start of the tour for your convenience.
We meet on the Royal Mile and start by giving a little background history to Edinburgh and the Castle to help put everything into context. Moving up to the castle esplanade where you will learn about the Edinburgh Military Tattoo and two of the most famous figures from Scottish history; Robert the Bruce and William Wallace.
Entering the Castle we stop by the Argyle Battery where you will learn about the 1 o'clock gun. Moving on we head down to the Hospital Square where we get impressive views from the Western Panorama before heading up towards the castle barracks and prisoner of war camp, all these areas have enthralling stories that only a guide can bring to life.
We then climb to the top of Castle Rock entering the medieval section of Edinburgh Castle. Here we see the oldest building in Edinburgh, St Margaret’s Chapel and Mons Meg, a monstrous canon!
The tour finishes in the Crown Square which is the heart of Edinburgh Castle and I will tell you all about the daring attacks against this iconic fortification.
History Lovers Old Town Walk
This is the ideal tour for anyone who wants to learn more than just the basics about Edinburgh's historic Old Town. To start, meet us away from most other tourists, on the edge of Princes Street Gardens, for the best view of Edinburgh Castle in the whole city.
This tour will have a bit of everything - you'll learn about the lives of some of the Old Town's most famous and infamous residents, and some gruesome, interesting, and entertaining stories about what the city has seen over the centuries. Along the way, we'll point out some of our favourite spots to pop in for a "wee dram" or pint, so you'll know just where to go once the tour is over!
This tour starts at 16.30, after the crowds have died down, so we have more space to explore Old Town. We limit the group size, so it's still a personal experience and you'll be able to chat with your guide and ask questions. Our goal is for you to learn a bit about Edinburgh's history, and have a great time while doing it!
We'll do this tour rain or shine, so be sure to watch the weather and come prepared!

The Dark Side of Edinburgh
If you want a mundane, humdrum history walk, this is not the tour for you. But... if you want to learn what the tourist industry leaves out? The hidden, gruesome crimes and punishments? The long forgotten twisted, sadistic characters? The thousands of lives painfully lost in the cruel grip of Edinburgh's past? Maybe you are brave enough to learn the truth.
Hear of witches, cannibals, murders, thieves, body snatchers, blood thirsty mobs and the devil in disguise. We will explore haunted graveyards, hide up darkened closes, spit on the Heart of Midlothian and bravely face where Edinburgh believed the world ended. You even get a chance to knock on Bloody Mackenzie's door, if you dare!
Madam McKinnon will guide you through our streets under cover of darkness. She's been dead for almost 200 years and does not take kindly to modern nonsense. She will however, crack your sides with laughter over her dry Scottish wit. And her tales will chill you to your core.
Our tours are historically accurate, with a history this dark there's no need to fabricate!
COVID INFO: During these difficult times, your safety is very important to us. As restrictions in Scotland have eased and the tour is entirely outside, masks are no longer a requirement but welcomed. Please continue to maintain appropriate distancing from our guide and other groups on tour. We thank you for your cooperation.

Oxford University Tour With Alumni
We will start with a whirlwind overview of Oxford as the central player in 1,000 years of British history, and giving guests an understanding of how the sprawling institution operates before embarking on the tour.
Navigating down the windy alleyways we will get an insiders take on the little known viewing angles that bring across the drama of the world famous architecture in this city. With striking spires and imposing buildings, we will cover how these influenced Tolkien, C S Lewis, along with Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
We will enter one of the oldest Colleges at Oxford, renowned for its beautiful gardens, before heading into one of the most famous Library's in the world - responsible for over 13 million books. Capping this off we will cover a Harry Potter film site, along with why the most powerful religious figure England has ever seen, was burnt alive in the centre of Oxford, on what is now such a nondescript part of road you could easily miss it.
Please note: Colleges and the Library can shut without notice and currently they are available as of August 2021. If this changes on the day we will of course incorporate them - if we are not able to offer any access, we will offer up the option of a full refund.
Shared Oxford Punting Tour Led By Local Students
Enjoy a 30-minute student-led punting tour along the River Cherwell. As you set off south from the boathouse you will be chauffeured gently past Oxford’s famous Botanic Gardens, past Magdalen College School fields, through Christ Church Meadows, where Lewis Carroll was teaching students in the mid-19-century, when he wrote the famous Alice Through the Looking Glass and Alice in Wonderland. Then pass St Hilda’s College gardens and back to the Boathouse. You can ask questions throughout and even have a free punting lesson upon request.

We will see some of Oxford's best-known landmarks and hear about the people and events that made the city and the university world-famous - as well as some of the scrapes I got into when visiting them!
Other things to note
During off season I'm happy to adapt timing of tours (eg morning tour instead), please do enquire!
Travel around Oxford can get a bit congested so please don't hesitate to text or call me if you have any problems and I will do my best to adapt when possible. There are cobbled streets on the tour.
