Storytelling Walk - Folklore and Stories in Nature
If you are looking for an unique way to experience the great outdoors, why not join me for a story walk around my home Cwmffrwd Farm in the beautiful Brecon Beacons?
The walk is an hour long, through wildflower meadows and up to The Valley of the Streams for which our farm is named, before venturing out onto the open access mountain that reigns above.
You'll meet Ash, Alder, Hawthorn and Hazel; explore the haunts of hares and foxes, and venture - if you are brave enough - into the secret hidden places of the fairy folk.
While we wander I'll share folklore and stories connected to all the trees, plants and creatures we encounter along the way and tell some beautiful folktales that are specially selected to relax, inspire and empower.
You can also expect an exciting assortment of practical bushcraft tips and weird and wacky facts about such things as ancient remedies, plant magic and animal spirit medicine!
Relaxing Paddleboard Tour from Brecon
We'll take a gentle, relaxing Stand Up Paddleboard tour of a stretch of the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, taking in the sights and learning about the heritage and natural history of the canal.
This trip is appropriate for paddlers of all experience levels, from complete beginners to experienced SUPers. We will learn about the historic uses of the canal, see the wildlife, and get to enjoy the Brecon Beacons National Park from a perspective few get to experience.
Fully tailored to suit your needs, the adventure can be aimed to improve your SUP skills, see the wildlife and landscape, or just as a getaway from the daily grind!
We look forward to seeing you out there!
Hiking above Talybont-on-Usk
Your day will start and end in the little village of Talybont on Usk, we will leave the village using one historic route and return by another. It will be a day of extremes with one half of the day in the mountains with the second half watching wild foul on the canal.
As we climb gently into the mountains we will visit a herb garden and learn about the historic route we are following and how it would have been used in its day. With the weather on our side we will be rewarded with excellent views of the Brecon Beacons National Park at the summit of our peak, all the surrounding mountains and landmarks will be pointed out to you before we start our journey back down towards the Brecon and Monmouth Canal. We will then follow the canal back to the start keeping an eye out for wild life as we walk and learning about the history of the canal.
The hike is 16km (10 miles) long with a total ascent of 476m (1,560ft). The pace will always be leisurely with plenty of breaks for snacks, food and pictures.
Throughout the day I will impart local knowledge on various topics and draw your attention to amazing things that most will walk by without noticing.
All you will need is your hiking gear, a camera and a packed lunch to enjoy the day.
Andy's Secret Pen y Fan
Pen y fan is the highest mountain in Southern Britain! Andy's 'Secret Pen y Fan' is a glorious walk taking in as it does tracks lesser travelled and with exciting climbs and descents to summits and a fine lake.
This 11km and 600m of ascent walk is in part strenuous and so a bit of digging deep is required but it also has long stretches of easier terrain.
We will meet at the Pont ar Daf car park for a meet and greet.
Andy will be guiding you on a classic but lesser walked route to Pen y Fan's summit. Andy includes adventures throughout!
Following the Taff up to it's source, this route we'll have to ourselves, some may get wet feet so good boots a must and waterproof socks are a good investment. Then it's the steep climb to Corn Du and onto Pen y Fan, taking in the views, seeking out the fossil beach,
Guests spend the day chatting, encouraging, congratulating and of course making friends. Shared memories of a well remembered day often lead to long term friendships and this is all part of the experience of being out with Andy.
Andy's experience of guiding in the area and his developing of this unique walk will enhance your understanding of Wales and the Brecon Beacons and some of the local culture too :)

After the safety brief we will start our hike of approximately 14km. Throughout the day I will impart local knowledge on various topics and draw your attention to amazing things that most will walk by without noticing. If conditions and energy levels allow we can extend the hike in further by visiting the impressive Porth yr Ogof.
All you will need is your hiking gear, a camera and a packed lunch to enjoy the day.
Educational Farm Tour Feeding the Animals
Join us at 10.00am on Educational Farm Safari to visit with all the farm animals. You can help us feed them and learn about all our animals, how we take care of them and some of their quirky traits. This is daily farm life for us.

Archery
I will meet and greet you when you arrive at the centre. After a very informal chat, I will run through the activity and will explain all the necessary safety procedures in place.
We have a range of bows suitable for left or right handed archers. Each member will begin at a 10 metre distance from the target until they are deemed ready, by me, to move back to the 12.5 metre line.
During your session we will play a number of archery competitions to see who will be the hotshot of the day and get to sit on the Viking Throne.
Our range is located high up in the Herefordshire hills with amazing views of the Black Mountains and surrounding area.

See the Brecon Beacons At Night / Sunset
A wonderful and rare opportunity to see the Brecon Beacons in all its truly night – time glory.
The Brecon Beacons National Park is a registered Dark Sky Reserve. In fact it’s often described as a five million star hotel – and we’d love to show you why.
Meeting at a place that is most convenient for you, I will give a short talk on First Aid and Health and Safety. Then we'll set off! On the way I’ll tell you about the history of the park and point out some of it’s features, and at the top we’ll spend some time taking in the beauty of the stars, constellations and planets that I’ll point out to you. Oh – and we’ll enjoy some of my amazing hot chocolate too!
We do this because we enjoy it, and we do all we can to ensure that you do too. Take a look at our reviews – we think they bear us out. So we take our time, enjoy the walk and hopefully when we come down, we’ll part as friends.
Other things to note:
This event can go ahead in all weathers, but we tailor things to you. If the weather forecast says it’s too risky or dangerous, then we won’t take you up – and in those circumstances we make sure you’re refunded in full. Equally if it’s safe but cloudy, we can try a different date, or make sure you’re refunded in full. Alternatively if you want to come along to experience the thrill of hiking the mountains at night, stars or no stars, then come along with us!
Axe Throwing
Axe Throwing, maybe relatively new to the UK but it's quickly gaining popularity. The reason for this is very simple, it is just so satisfying throwing axes. There is no better feeling than when the axe is thrown perfectly in to the board. It is very addictive and once you've got the correct technique, you will want to throw again and again.
The activity sounds rather dangerous but with our safety measures in place, it is 100% safe. We begin with an introduction to axe throwing and the ways in which to throw. After a few practice throws, we take on the scoring targets, where it really gets fun. The targets are made out of rings, with each ring scoring higher points than the previous one. The dead centre ring (the bullseye) has the highest amount of points. The objective during the five rounds is to score the highest and to beat the opposition. We then play a team round.
Please be aware that this experience is for those aged 16 years and upwards. The axes we use are not suitable for anyone under this age.
To summarise the experience is very relaxed, unique and is a whole lot of fun. Even those of you who have tried axe throwing before, will be surprised how different our experience is. Outdoor axe throwing is very different to indoor.
If you are looking to book a different date or time (including weekends) please message me.

Laser Clay Shooting
Laser clay shooting is an outdoor electronic version of the countryside sport of clay pigeon shooting. The objective of the game is to try and hit clays as they fly across the sky with modified shotguns that fire laser beams instead of cartridges. A maximum of 5 people can fire at once with each person being able to hit the clay twice.
The advantages over clay pigeon shooting is that there is no kick back, no loud bangs and no chance of injury. All ages and abilities can play with no experience needed. A fun competitive activity for any group size from 1 to 10.
A session consists of six fun but competitive rounds, these include skillshot, fastest finger & rapid fire. We end the session with a team challenge to see how good you are in comparison to our previous groups. Is your group good enough to make it on to the airbnb experience leaderboard.
To summarise it is a perfect activity for anyone looking to try something new. It's FUN, it's EASY TO LEARN and it's HIGHLY ADDICTIVE. Come and give it a shot (pun intended)
If you are looking to book a different date or time (including weekends) please message me. Feel free to ask me anything.
Mountaineering for Beginners
This experience is a lovely introduction to mountaineering and off - path hillwalking for those who don't yet have the experience to try it for themselves, in what is probably the most beautiful part of the Brecon Beacons National Park. An area filled with myths, legends and breathtaking scenery, this is a day out that you'll remember for a long time to come.
And it's not just walking. We'll cover such things as the use of a map and compass and basic navigation, safety on the hill, hillwalking techniques, weather appreciation and we can talk about appropriate kit and clothing too.
We'll meet at a convenient location before travelling on to our starting point. Once there we'll introduce everyone and I'll conduct a brief health and safety talk, before telling you more about what we'll be doing during the day. Then we'll set off on a proper, proper adventure!
We do this because we enjoy it, and we do all we can to ensure that you do too. Take a look at the reviews for our other experiences (we hope to have some here soon!) – we think they bear us out. So we take our time, enjoy the day and hopefully when we come down off the hill, we’ll part as friends.
