Ukwamukela izivakashi okuvelele
7 recent guests complimented Jeannie for outstanding hospitality.
This charming farmhouse and one-room schoolhouse were built in 1922. Nestled up against hilly pastures, its country air will help you breathe easy again. The front porches offers an expansive view of the valley with WV's "wild & wonderful" hills jutting up in the distance. Dotting the landscape behind the back fence, mama cows munch while calves play. Great for personal retreats, or group get-aways. Private, quiet & comfortable. 25 minutes to town. Please read all info before booking.

Indawo
This property includes two sweet and beautiful calico cats for critter patrol in and around the old farmhouse. If you are allergic, please be sure to bring medication. We cannot guarantee a dander-free environment.

Ukungena kwesivakashi
The house is yours! And feel free to spend time in the schoolhouse set up as a large living room. A great place to relax, but older and just as fragile as the house. Please be kind to it.

IMPORTANT: Since we are in a rural area, our Wi-Fi is from a satellite dish, not DSL, so you DO NOT HAVE UNLIMITED ACCESS. Please keep your devices on "airplane mode" when not in use. Overuse of wi-fi results in depleted GBs, slower connecting speeds or complete loss of connection for you and the people who come after you.

Ezinye izinto okumele ziqashelwe
Neighbors are friendly, helpful if needed, and all will respect your privacy. If you're on the front porch, feel free to wave to the occasional passersby and you'll get a smile and wave in return. They love the old house, and many have stories about attending the school.

Indawo

Spencer, West Virginia, United States

The farmhouse was previously owned by Denver and Edith Wallbrown and all the neighbors knew and loved them. If you ever get lost, just tell them you're staying at Denver Wallbrown's on Otto Road, and they'll get you home.

My partner, Bill, and I moved to West Virginia in 2000. We love its quiet beauty and simplified life, and want to give others the opportunity to experience the same. Besides airbnb guests, we host retreatants, and college groups who come from all over the country for their spring and fall breaks. With the students, we do service projects for the poor and elderly in our community and give them a taste of Appalachian culture. More than that, they learn first-hand how extractive industries (coal, gas, oil, timber) and their own energy consumption cause the social, environmental and economic issues of this "poverty pocket" of a America. By the end of their time here, they're a little wiser, living more simply, and ready to make a difference back home. Hosting you helps us continue to educate, advocate and contemplate in these ancient hills. To learn more, look up Appalachian Catholic Worker.
