Indawo
Our Home is simple yet thoughtfully built by ourselves with local materials (soil, clay, wood, stone) over time. It might not be lavish but it is designed to keep you warm and comfortable at anytime of the year. The rooms give you a mesmerizing view of the valley and the Ladakh Himalayan range. The rooftop and the terrace garden is a good place to warm yourself with some chai and stunning views of the valley & the Monastery. Old Likkir is surrounded by farmlands and little streams during summers. You could enjoy some juicy apricots from our garden during September.

Our home lies in middle of the Likir village, just a few minutes downhill from the historical Likir Monastery. The colours of landscape and the everyday activities change with season. The village depends on its melting glaciers to grow its food. It turns into a lush green oasis hustling with life during summer and slows down for the winters. Our unique culture and traditional knowledge helps us grow as much as we can during this short span on time and spend the winters on art & craft. Everything that comes from the land, goes back to the land. Every little resource is valued.

Likir is also home to a traditional Ladakhi pottery, a technique still being practiced by our neighbors. We would love to give you a tour to their studio during your stay here.

Ukungena kwesivakashi
We have a common outdoor courtyard with a small garden outside the rooms. The dining area downstairs is shared. The bathroom is shared with hot water from solar heater and western style toilet during summers). We also have a shared Ladakhi compost toilet behind the house. You can experience a greenhouse hot bucket shower during winters. We have a meditation room. We could organise a bonfire at the common area downstairs on request and if weather permits. Guests are free take a stroll around the house and into the farms (make sure not to step on crops). Always remember to carry a torch (phone torch will do) when you step out. It's a small household, you will get to know the common areas once you are here and in case of any doubts, feel free to ask us :)

Likir, India

Likir is a serene and peaceful village. People around are very friendly and helpful. Each house in the village is located a few hundred meters away from each other, space out by beautiful barley fields, streams and pathways. In summers you could see the villagers indulged in farm work. As you walk through the village, you will come across kids playing on streets, different kinds of birds, sheeps, cows, dzos, chortens and glittering glacial streams watering the fields.

Likir is also home to a traditional Ladakhi pottery, a technique still being practiced & nurtured by our lovely neighbor. We would love to give you a tour to their studio & shop during your stay here.

You could do an hour hike uphill into the rocky mountains and visit a meditation house built around a small natural spring or walk downhill to the main stream. You might even spot a marmot if you are lucky.

The village has got only one shop selling noodles, chips, beverages, stupas, soap and other basics. There are couple of restaurants open near the monastery during summers.

Phakathi nokuhlala kwakho
Myself (Stanzin) or my wife (Tsomo) are always home or in the field around. One of us might occasionally step out to Leh town to buy essentials. In that case, you can approach whoever is home if you need something. We are more than happy to share stories and have conversations over a cup of chai or dinner.
