frogshollow at flaxton offers private cabin accommodation overlooking virgin rainforest 5 minutes from wedding venues, cafes and shops in Montville in the picturesque Sunshine Coast Hinterland. It is eco-friendly, secluded and peaceful yet minutes from major tourist destinations.
The entrance to the Great Walk through Kondalilla National Park with its trails, waterfalls and stunning views is just around the corner. It is ideal for bushwalkers and nature lovers, or just a relaxing holiday away.

Indawo
frogshollow cabin was built in 2012 on 13 acres (5 hectares) of virgin rainforest and a mixture of tropical and native gardens. It is totally private and separate to our house on the property and provides very comfortable self contained guest accommodation. It is ideal for a couple but can take up to 5 people. The garden is one of 25 gardens featured in the 2019 published book “Great Australian Gardens” volume 2.

The cabin is architect designed and built with external walls and roof sheeted in corrugated iron reminiscent of the Australian country shed. The floors are polished hardwood and the ceiling sloped to enhance the feeling of light and spaciousness. All walls and the ceiling are fully insulated to 6 star energy rating. The cabin faces north to catch the winter sun and view, and has great cross ventilation in summer breezes. A log fire gives a wonderful warmth and ambience on a cool winter's evening.

A full length verandah overlooks a native garden and extends into the edge of the canopy of the virgin rainforest to the side. There is generous space for the outdoor dining setting and deck chairs to lounge on while relaxing in the peaceful surroundings, plus a BBQ for those who just want to sit and enjoy the surroundings instead of going out to dinner.

A dedicated parking space for cabin guests is located beside the entrance to the cabin, under a large avocado tree. There are 2 low steps at the entrance.

Provided inside the cabin is a wardrobe with hanging space, sheets, blankets, doonas, towels, shampoo and soap items, as well as complimentary slippers - we ask that shoes be left at the door. The kitchen is fully equipped with pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, oven, stove, fridge, coffee machine, tea making facilities, toaster etc. If there happens to be something else that you need we are close by to look after your needs if we possibly can.

There is a separate desk and wireless internet connection for guests who want to work while away, or just search for information online. There is also an LCD TV and a bluetooth soundbar to play the music you might have on your mobile device.

The bathroom is spacious with 2 vanity basins, and a large glass sliding door leading out onto the end of the verandah giving glorious but private rainforest views whilst showering. The bathroom is light and airy but remains totally private.

Our price includes a self cooked breakfast including home grown eggs and avocados when in season, bread, cereal, spreads, fruit, juice, milk etc. We just ask that you clean up after using the kitchen facilities.

The gardens around the cabin are a mixture of native and exotic plants, with a dedicated vegetable and fruit tree area, more than a dozen huge avocado trees, large Australian Red Cedar trees and a heliconia and ginger growing area producing cut flowers for the Noosa Farmers' Market. A flock of chooks assists with the gardening chores and provides eggs.

There is a variety of native life both near the cabin and down in the forest. The dam close by the house is home to a growing family of freshwater turtles and a number of species of frogs, as well as native rainbow fish. Yellow tailed black cockatoos regularly visit with their distinctive cries, and the forest chorus includes calls from the Emerald Dove, Woompoo Dove, Wonga Pigeon, Eastern Whipbird, Catbird and the Satin Bowerbird to mention just a few.

The old growth rainforest on the property is recognised as containing a number of rare and threatened species and is protected by a Voluntary Conservation Agreement with Sunshine Coast Council. The canopy is very high and the access is quite steep, but once down the slope walking is relatively easy. The vulnerable Richmond Birdwing Butterfly and endangered Pink Underwing Moth can also be found breeding in the rainforest. The whole property is registered with "Land for Wildlife".

Adventurous guest staying in the cabin are welcome to trek down the steep slope to the forest floor and take a wander through, past piccabeen palms and giant strangler figs.

Ukungena kwesivakashi
Guests have complete and separate access to the cabin and all its facilities. By arrangement washing can be done in our home. The cabin has its own full length covered clothesline and pegs to give clothes a fresh sunny scent when dry. The dryer in our home may be used on request.

Guests are more than welcome to wander the garden, feed the turtles and fish in the dam (please only food supplied by us), pick some veggies for dinner, walk down into the rainforest.

Ezinye izinto okumele ziqashelwe
We share our home with 1 cat, a koolie dog and a flock of chooks, which is why we request guests please not bring their own pets.

Flaxton, Queensland, Australia

The property is in a semi rural peaceful location in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland and has an elevation of 420m. The hinterland is famous for its pristine environment, fabulous walks and views, historic townships including Montville and Mapleton (both 5 minutes away from the cabin) and Maleny (20 minutes away); specialty shops, art galleries, food producers and award winning restaurants. In winter the visitor is treated to log fires and in summer the higher altitude takes the sting out of the summer heat.

We are also close to a number of wedding and special function venues including Flaxton Gardens which is only 3 kms from the cabin.

In Maleny the visitor can tour the dairy or sample cheeses at the cheese factory, shop for anything and everything in Montville or just sit on the verandah of the historic old pub in Mapleton and take in the glorious view all the way down to the coast. There are also a number of wineries in the area to visit and sample.

Slightly further afield, at the other end of the picturesque Obi Obi Valley lies the township of Kenilworth, also famous for its cheese factory and historic pub, as well as its Wine and Food Festival every Easter.

The famous Sunshine Coast beaches including Mooloolaba and Noosa are also just a 30-45 minute drive away.

The 58km Sunshine Coast Great Walk is our the doorstep with the Flaxton Walkers Camp just 1 kilometre away. The track takes the walker through rainforest and tall open eucalypt forest, across creeks and beside waterfalls and swimming holes. It traverses Kondalilla National Park and into Mapleton State Forest, with shorter sections suitable for day visitors. More experienced walkers can camp out for several nights in the various Walkers Camps. We are happy to assist guests with transport to one end of a section of the walk so they can walk a leg and not have to return to where they started from.

We are not far from a number of very popular markets on the Sunshine Coast selling a variety of merchandise from secondhand tools, clothing, locally grown produce and arts and crafts. The most famous of them all are the Eumundi Markets on a Saturday and Wednesday morning, about 30 minutes away. Also on Saturday mornings there is a large flea market at Yandina and once a month a local market in Montville. On Sunday mornings in Noosaville there is the very popular Noosa Farmers Market where flowers grown at frogshollow are sold. There is also a wide selection of locally grown produce and gourmet foods available at this market.

Australia Zoo, the Sunshine Coast's most popular tourist attraction, is only a 30 minute drive away.

We retired to the hinterland of the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia in 2012 to escape the hustle and bustle of life on the Coast, and adore the peaceful and serene natural environment that surrounds us. We are avid gardeners and love the magnificent rainforest on our property. We look forward to the pleasure of hosting airbnb guests and trust you will treat our cabin as your own for the length of your stay. You can have total privacy or interact with us as much as you would like.
