My cozy little Glamping Nook is right on Lake Erie and is a huge step up from camping but still a rustic and simple experience. Keep cozy by the wood stove, gather a book from the ceiling high bookshelves, or bust out one of the board games you loved to play as a kid. I’ve got a plethora of nostalgic video games & movies for indoor days. Outside you can take in the sunset or sit & bond around a campfire. You're in for an experience here.

Don't let other listings in our area fool you, I am RIGHT on Lake Erie which means you have full views from your space and direct water access down a break wall and into the water. There's nothing like sitting in front of a campfire with the lake as your backdrop. And with no city lights to pollute the night skies we get the best view of the stars. Please be aware that I am really remote, especially if you’re a city dweller there’s no “shopping” or “bar hopping” or that type of thing. It’s a place you come to unplug.
If you've ever dreamt of living in a little log cabin somewhere or being off grid, here's the perfect opportunity to see what this lifestyle is all about! The Nook has so many offerings I hardly know where to start. I’ve been told that it’s cozy, quaint, eccentric, inspiring, comforting & romantic (to name a few). You’re sure to be touched by the Nook. Unlike other Air BnB listings I am sharing *MY* personal space with you which means you get an *experience* not just a place to lay your head. The Nook is beyond relaxing. You'll cozy in & finally find the time you've been needing to read, write, play music or just take in the beauty of your surroundings. The Nook consists of an open space with a double bed piled with pillows so you can sit up & play games or watch a movie. Please note that there is no box spring so the bed is low and cozy (in case you have mobility issues). There's cozy double seating by the fire. Behind the living space is a small kitchen area with all the basic supplies (pots, a pan, kettle, Keurig coffee maker, cutlery, dishes etc), a microwave, small bar fridge, toaster oven, pizza oven & seating area for two. There is no running water in the Nook but I’ve taken care of your water needs by having a hand pump water station that you can use for cooking, washing up, or to make tea or coffee. You might want to bring your own drinking water. I have an outdoor camp style kitchen around the back of the Nook with a propane BBQ & Coleman stove. There is an outhouse with hand sanitizer a few steps outside of the bunkie. During the winter months the wood stove is enough to heat the space nice and toasty, just keep in mind that you will have to venture outside for the outhouse and to restock your wood. In the summer months the breeze off the lake keeps things comfortable. There is also a dehumidifier. Spring & fall are they're absolutely perfect with the best of both worlds, warm enough to venture outside, and cool enough to still need the wood stove for a romantic night in the snug warm heat. I presume you’re coming to unplug, get quiet & connect to nature but if you’re looking for WiFi, hot showers, & shopping, the Nook may not be the right fit for you. We’re out here all peaceful & remote enjoying the stars, the birds, and the fresh air with simple way of being.

There is a Conservation area about a 5 minute drive down the street with showers. If you non challantly go in, you can use their facilities, otherwise bring chemical free soap and bathe in the lake. They are only open from the May long weekend until thanksgiving. Otherwise, showering is not an option.

THINGS TO BRING
-Water shoes & a towel for swimming
-Drinking water
-Salt pepper and cooking oil for cooking (due to the temperature changes I don’t provide these).
-Tupperware or metal containers for your dried goods for night time as there is a mouse that sneaks in from time to time. I can't catch him, but have tried.
-rubber boots if it’s wet season or rainy
-warm clothes and layers for fall and winter seasons, it can get very cold
-slippers
-a canoe or kayak if you want to go

Please note that there is no outdoor lock on the Nook, this is for insurance reasons with the wood stove. But not to worry you’re in a really safe and quiet community. There is a lock you can lock behind you when inside.

During your stay you will have full private use of the Nook , its outdoor kitchen, and your own fire pit with seating. Firewood is included for you so you don't have to worry about lugging a load. Ive got got horseshoes, a football, snow shoes, and a frisbee, 2 mountain bikes. There is direct water access & often (depending on the water level) there is a private rock beach you can lounge on for the day. The port o potty is maintained twice a week during busy season, and once a week during the cooler months so it is always clean & pleasant for your stay.

ADD ONS

EARLY CHECK IN / LATE CHECK OUT. This is not always available so please enquire ahead. $25 per adjustment. Early: 12pm vs 2pm. Late: 1pm vs 11am. The reason for cost is that I have to hire a cleaner to accommodate as I usually pop home on my lunch, and instead have to hire a cleaner.

*** PLEASE NOTE: there is a 12 foot break wall to get down to the water; each rock is about 3 feet but depending on the water level & your physical ability it can still be a challenge as it is steep. If you want easy access there’s a private quiet beach you can walk into in 20 mins or a 3 minute drive.

Welcome to my HOME. The difference between an empty, no character, basic or modern rental and mine... is everything. I hope you’re chosen the Nook because it stands out & gives you that warm and fuzzy feeling you used to get when you got treated to hot chocolate & were allowed to dunk your Oreo cookies in it.

As you can see by a map, location is the least attractive part for those looking to “do things”. But the short rental is preferable to people who like to just sit and “be”. Read a book, have a fire, sit at the lake, take a bike ride along the lake shore. There’s no “shopping”, restaurants are about half an hour away, and we have 3 great beaches Port Dover (20 mins) more of a party scene, and Long Point - huge long beautiful beach about 45 minutes away. There’s a private small beach 2 minutes from my place, across from the Oneida Baptist Camp.

I pride myself on being Superhost & want to make sure you have a wonderful stay, don't be afraid to ask questions or send a text message if you need anything. Please don’t wait until check out time or review time to mention the propane ran out or a light bulb needed changing. I’m here to help, and have all the supplies we need, ask away, it’s never a bother.

-please do not write or draw on my walls. *seriously*

-please do not park on my front lawn, or grass (it’s surprising how often this happens)

-Make sure you pick up what you need prior to your arrival as the closest grocery store is 20 mins away. I suggest stopping at No Frills on Highway 6 right before you turn onto Sandusk Road down to my place. They have great locally sourced produce & meat & are reasonably priced.

-There is no running water in the Nook (this means there is no shower or hot water). During the Summer months there are public showers available 5 minutes away at the Haldimand Conservation Area. Some people also choose to boil some water & wash up using the red wash basin. I recommend bringing face or baby wipes to freshen up with.

-Cooking is done outdoors (unless you're using the microwave). There is a camp stove and a BBQ. If you run out of propane please just ask me for more as there is always more on site. DO NOT BRING THE BBQ OR STOVE TO COOK INSIDE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES (yes this has happened, and it’s a ridiculous danger with the wood stove and propane use indoors)

-I do not have WiFi (or internet, so there’s no sense in asking).

-I am pet friendly but ask that you let us know first (I may restrict animals other than dogs).

-Dogs must always be kept on leash under all circumstances with no exceptions & we ask that you please pick up after your pet. There are other pets on the property as well as in the neighborhood and proper introductions are essential

-As we are in the country, you can expect there to be tics, please ensure your dog is having treatment and / or you check frequently.

-This is a safe space for everyone & will show you love & respect to all.

-No guests or visitors under any
circumstances.

-Don't forget that you are coming to the country & we have no control over what Mother Nature has to offer, this includes occasional strong winds, a 'rough' Lake day, wildlife & bugs

-If you notice "dust" or spiderwebs in the Nook it's not because we haven't cleaned it’s because it’s heated with wood so with that comes a lot of ash. Spiders come with living on the lake, I do spray twice a year and do the best I can; but it comes with the territory

-Please do not place anything on top of the wood stove it will melt & will damage the stove.

-please do not force the woodstove door closed. If it’s not closing properly, the wood is likely too big or at a wrong angle. If you break the glass on the woodstove there is a $113 charge

-Smoking is permitted outdoors only (all and every kind of smoking). If you are found to have smoked in the bunkie, there will be a one night extra charge

-No candles indoors, I’ve provided
ample ambient lighting.

-If you're wondering about "value" when comparing ours & other listings. We've taken into consideration the fact that firewood, coffee, water, parking, bicycle usage are all included in your stay. is included in the cost of your stay. Unlike most other AirBnB rentals, we are pet friendly & do not require a safety deposit.

- Please, if you’re not used to basic and rustic, & you’re looking for more of a cottage experience, this may not be the place for you. It’s Glamping, perfectly charming, and a little basic.

-kayaks and canoe are no longer included or for use during your stay for safety reasons

-please be careful on the Lake. Lake Erie is a dangerous lake that can change at any time. Unfortunately there have been several drownings on the lake in our area in the past couple of years. Be safe. Stay close to shore

I am located in a quiet lakeside neighborhood full of nature lovers & laid back lifestyle. I hope you've come for the peace & quiet & along with that means you're no where near anything!

Port Dover is a popular spot to visit during your stay. Large touristy white sand beach with lots of restaurant options. It's about a 20 minute drive away.

Long Point is the best beach in the area and offers lots of conservation land. There's great bird watching, eco adventure activities such as zip lining & paddle boarding and even a special initiative to save the turtles & snakes. It's about a 50 minute drive, and well worth it.

Selkirk Conservation is about 15 minutes away and have some simple trails and are waterfront. The town of Selkirk is the closest convenience store (where they also have a built in LCBO).

Hoovers Marina is a short 7 minute drive away and offers great food, especially breakfast. They are on the water and have a nice patio. It is a seasonal spot. Call before going to ensure they're open. This restaurant is seasonal (late Spring to early Fall).

The closest grocery store is in Hagersville up on Highway 6 before Sandusk, it is a No Frills and is open 10am - 9pm generally. It is half an hour away from us so we recommend picking stuff up on your way in.

Simcoe has lots of "shopping" and all around Norfolk is a great place to go and check out farms, markets, and Fall fairs.

There is some great dining around us. I suggest the Twisted Lemon in Cayuga, the Combine in Simcoe, Lago in Port Dover, David's in Port Dover, Hoovers Marina in Nanticoke, or the Barrel in Simcoe. Lots of Earth to Table and great atmosphere. Alternatively you can pick up Chinese food or Godfathers pizza in Hagersville on your way in or it is 30 minutes away.

There is no Uber or food delivery. If that’s the kind of trip you’re looking for, you’re not looking in the right location. We are country remote.

Godfathers in Hagersville will deliver but they charge $8 delivery and can take up to an hour and a half.

I'm a city folk who packed up for my dreams & headed to the lake. Originally from Toronto, then Hamilton, and now Nanticoke. I moved full time with my dog into a winterized cottage. I recently returned from the Bahamas and rescued 2 puppies from the hurricane so now there’s 4 of us. I put my blood, sweat & tears into converting the second building on the lot into an incredible & cozy Bunkie (now known as the Nook). It's a place where I keep all of my treasures I've collected throughout my lifetime - some all the way back from childhood. I believe in a work / life balance & definitely lean towards the play more work less lifestyle. That being said, I am passionate about my career as a Home Care Coordinator through the LHIN & believe that my home life (being surrounded by nature & water, eating from my own garden & enjoying a simple life) makes me able to do my very difficult & sometimes challenging job with grace & ease. I love to read, write, bird watch, play music (piano, guitar, accordion, banjo), star gaze, fire build, garden, hike, canoe, kayak, work, cook & travel (to name a few). I love knowing that I'm exactly where I need to be. I've traveled across the globe to places including New Zealand, Costa Rica (twice), Alaska, Germany, Bermuda, Cuba, Switzerland, France, Arizona, Jamaica, Amsterdam, Panama, Hawaii, England, Alaska, Thailand, Bahamas (3 times), Punta Cana, Arizona, and the list continues. I went from social service worker to travel agent and then earned my BSW and returned to the field as a registered Social Worker. When I travel I like to experience culture & community. I'm not a sight se'er & rarely do I visit the "tourist traps" or "must sees". I'm more likely to book an Air BnB off the beaten path & walk in the opposite direction of everyone else. I collect tattoos & I'm obsessed with my wood stoves. I love learning new ways to stack and store wood. I'm an all around do it yourself-er and have taught myself how to build everything and anything, how to sew my own curtains, do my own oil changes, shingle my own roof, & install my own car stereo. Since moving to the Lake I've learnt to use & acquired so many power tools and have taught myself to build many things, including the firewood storage seen outside the Nook, a deck, the outdoor kitchen & all the raised garden beds you'll find throughout the property. I've discovered a passion for gardening and am currently growing 8 varieties of tomatoes, 3 varieties of strawberries, peppers, all sorts of herbs, cauliflower, broccoli, green beans, peas, brussel sprouts, carrots, beets, and a bunch of different lettuce varieties. This year I started all my own plants from seed indoors and am working on growing a dream lavender garden. I love hosting on Air BnB because it allows me to meet people from all over, share in the thing I'm most proud of (the Nook & my property) & it gives me the opportunity to reinvest in the property by doing things like planting gardens, getting the best cuts of hardwood for fire burning, collecting treasures from garage sales & auctions, & doing my best to leave only a small imprint on the environment. I use environmentally friendly soap and body products, compost and recycle and use my outdoor shower and do it myself hot tub (a claw foot cast iron tub I heat with propane outdoors). I eat when i can from my garden and am slowly but surely learning to convert what I can to solar energy. I've recently rigged a trolling motor to a 100W solar panel which I attached to my canoe. Both my home and the Nook are heated entirely by wood. I am not connected to gas lines, municipal water or sewage. I am mindful in all I do and am proud to be caring for the environment as I go. Life is grand, & I'm forever grateful to be living our dream, serenely on the lake, one day at a time. @laurameredithricker @glampingnook
