Welcome to this beautiful homestay at village Tsogsty. All around the village you can see farms of apple, apricot, and walnut. You can enjoy the view of mountains and the mighty Zanskar river that has carved the valley.

See the village activities, try Archery and learn ancient copper art. The village is home to traditional copper art and artisans. One can try making one and also buy these locally made handicrafts.

Indawo
The homestay belongs to the Wangchuk family who has kept it neat and clean. Wangchuk himself is a copper artisan and his wife and daughter take care of the guests who visit this homestay.

Ukungena kwesivakashi
Along with clean and comfortable guest rooms, the house has a big common area close to the kitchen. This a place where guests can hang around, have their food and interact with the hosts. The dry toilet of the house is upstairs. Outside the house, the family has its little place where the artisan makes the handicrafts. Guests can request the host to demonstrate and also participate in this activity. Just next to the house, the family has its apple farm that guests can visit. Along with these common areas of the house, guests can also explore the village, see the common gathering place, other copper workshops, and a place to worship. If informed earlier, a small hike can also be arranged to explore the surrounding area of the village.

Ezinye izinto okumele ziqashelwe
1. There is no network connectivity or TV available here.
2. Tsogsti can be visited during the entire year. In summers it is charmed with green farms, with fresh apples and apricots hanging. Winters are worth exploring as the Zanskar river freezes in sub-zero temperatures. The stay in homestay is still very cozy and you can see copper artisans busy in their copper work across the village.
3. Keeping enough warm clothes and a rain jacket is a good idea (a complete list of essentials will be shared once you book the experience).
4. Get in touch with the host, Gaganpreet Singh, to make arrangements for a comprehensive experience at Tsogsti. A team leader from our team will accompany you during the entire tour.
5. To make it cost-efficient we recommend you to book your arrangements for at least 2 people (more the merrier)

Tourists visit the village sporadically. The main source of income is through dry apricots, apricot seeds, apricot oil, apples and walnuts. There are few copper artisans in the village also which are still practicing this art that has almost vanished from rest of Ladakh. It is interesting to see their work and the artifacts they make. Thetan Wangyal is one such artisan, very old but he has many talents. He also makes wooden artifacts and tools for farming. Do try his apricot jam which he makes for his family.

Another thing that you should definitely try at Tsogsti is archery. Archery is an ancient sport of Ladakh which the locals do for recreation. Thetan ji makes arrows and bows which you can use and also buy for yourself.

The village have four beautiful houses in middle of great views of mountains. There are few Buddhist chortens on a small hill top, to be explored only if you are too adventurous. The village is just a few kilometers from the confluence point of Indus and Zanskar river, which is worth checking out too.

Tsogsti is in Hemis National Park but at a much lower altitude. A few birds and small mammals can be spotted around the village.

Phakathi nokuhlala kwakho
Wangchuk is an old artisan whom you will see humming Buddhist chants during the morning hours. Making copper handicrafts and working on farms are his primary activities. But he happily involves the guests in these activities and shares information about the village and culture. His wife and daughter take care of the homestay. They are very hospitable and prepare great food. They know little English or Hindi but are able to handle the guest without any problem. The family has a cute little friendly dog who adds the charm to the place.
