Highly rated host
Basil has received 5-star ratings from 100% of recent guests.
The property is the annexe of a 150-year old ‘tharavadu’ (aka ancestral home) - beautifully restored with modern amenities. The property is located in the quaint little village of Aymanam, on the banks of the Meenachil river. Come, stay with us and enjoy the serene space with its greenery and the many birds that visit our fruit trees or walk over and relax on the banks of the river (a short 50m walk within the estate).

Indawo
We offer you a quiet and serene environment away from the hustle and bustle of the main town and its busy roads. The famed backwaters of Kumarakom are just around 8 kms away and Kottayam town itself just around 5 kms away. Our property also makes a great base from which you can easily access other places of tourist interest in Kerala like Aleppey, Munnar, Thekkady and Fort Kochi.

Ukungena kwesivakashi
The cottage has two bedrooms and this listing is for one of the two bed rooms. (Please see my other listings if you want the entire place: https://www.airbnb.co.in/rooms/18061681?location=Aymanam%2C%20Kerala%2C%20India&s=5uL_PL6h). In addition to the room/s you rent, you will also have access to a living space, a well-equipped kitchenette and the long verandah. I would also be happy to give you a tour of the 150-year old main house where I live and the surrounding estate with its fruit trees, exotic spices and other cash crops and explain the rich history and flora/fauna of the estate.

Ezinye izinto okumele ziqashelwe
You will have access to the well-equipped kitchenette if you'd like to prepare any food for yourself or the children. Breakfast is included in the package. You can also order from restaurants that delivers to the address.

Hi! I am Basil. I live in Aymanam, a small village in Kerala, India made famous by Arundhati Roy’s ‘God of Small Things’. Brought up in East Africa (what is now Tanzania) I moved back to my roots in India in my teens to complete my higher education. Fast forward many years and I am now a retired high school teacher, enjoying a semi-retired life close to nature. I live in a separate bungalow in the same compound in which you will be staying. I am available onsite whenever my guest’s need me while not being in their space. The bungalow I live in is over 150 years old and is built in the traditional style of architecture used in Syrian Christian family homes, with exquisite wood work and a gabled roof. The space you will be renting as my guest is a newly renovated 2 bedroom bungalow. The building has been renovated without altering the spirit of the original architectural style but at the same time, incorporating modern amenities. The premises surrounding the residences has rich vegetation and is home to a variety of fruits and spices such as banana, coconut, jackfruit, guava, mango, mangosteen, pulasan, chikkoo, papaya, pepper, nutmeg, cloves etc. We are also blessed with a small meandering river that forms one of the boundaries of the property. I love meeting people from different parts of the world and I look forward to connecting with interesting people traveling to Kerala and hope to help each guest experience ‘Gods Own Country’ like a local.
