Unpretentious from the outside, the Lakeview is a comfortable log frame cottage with unparalleled lake and mountain views. Sleeps 3. All appliances, wood stove, BBQ and fire pit. Free use of canoe and snowshoes, 15 acre property, surrounded by crown forest with trails. Lake access across the road: mile-wide rocky beach, crown land and usually deserted. Free canoe use. BEFORE booking with your ONE quiet, well-socialized dog, inform us about breed, age. Bring your boat, launch 1 mile away!

Indawo
Although entirely independent, the Lakeview is semi-attached to the Rustic Log cottage (there is no indoor connection). The mechanical room is between the two and disturbance is minimal. The cottage is entirely separate, no amenities are shared and has about an acre-sized field on its own private side with BBQ and firepit. Although safe and well-kept, there are small stairs and an elevated deck without a railing.

This is a large property and unlike many places you will find along kootenay lake, we are on a clearing in the middle of crown forested land with no direct neighbours. We leave you be as much as you desire but are there to assist, suggest outings or a place to buy that widget you need. The cottage is comfortable but it is the setting, space, tranquillity and views are what makes people fall in love with it. Many people return or extend their stay. We frequently host monthly renters. We are set back from the highway further than most so it is quiet and a lot of wildlife visits us. There is lots of room to wander, on and off-site. For pets too; although they need to be on-leash on-site, as soon as they are on the driveway or in the forest and the beach they can run until they drop! The forests behind us stretch all the way back to Cranbrook, with no one in between. We have created some clearly marked trails and more are planned. Although a clean and tidy property, this is not a new-built sterile second home; our place lives and breathes and has deep roots, we live on-site full time, host year round, chop our own firewood, grow our own fruit and enjoy/ deal with all seasons as they come. Our skies are so dark you can see the Milky Way. Our water comes from a spring right out of the mountain. We love hosting and will try to make your stay as stress free as possible. You're welcome to help out on the property as well!
Activities: Hiking, canoeing, snowshoeing, split your own firewood, biking, lazing on the beach or in front of the fire, exploring historic Nelson or Kalso, visit artisan shops in Crawford Bay, golf, boat, visit a dairy farm, winery, brewery, go ziplining, dining, caving, soak in the hotsprings etc etc

The Kootenay lifestyle is uniquely enjoyable. Every season has it's charm here and even the winters are mild. In the summer we swim and we boat and fish pretty much year round. Unlike many properties you will find along kootenay lake, we are on a large clearing in the middle of crown forested land. It is very quiet and a lot of wildlife visits us. There is lots of room to wander, on and off-site. The forests behind us stretch all the way back to Cranbrook, with no one on between. We love hosting and will try to make your stay as stress free as possible.

Steffen moved from The Netherlands in 2000, speaks Frisian, Dutch, English, German and some French. He is a professional Biologist who started in Calgary as Environmental Consultant, spending most of time there with the Orphan Well Association. He also taught part-time at the University of Calgary in their environmental management program. He moved permananently to Boswell I October 2016 and is ecstatic to now live as he once imagined all Canadians did, when he was a child in Europe, save the pet moose.. He also has his private pilot’s license but lacks the time, the money and the plane to fly!
Hosting has been a super experience, meeting interesting people from all over the map, geographically, professionally and socially. We truly are in a remote area and welcome all people who treasure nature, peace and quiet and gently reconnecting with nature and eachother. I hope to see you here one day!

We'll meet you for check-in, other than that, you are on your own as much as you want to be. However, we are close enough for questions, help or emergencies. We do expect a modicum of self-reliance and some minor skills like safely making a fire etc, this is not a fool-proof city home. In the winter, we clear the access road for you. The quickest way to reach us is via Airbnb.
