Covid 19 Notes and Precautions: We have always maintained very high standards of cleanliness, and are making even greater stringent efforts in the crises we all face at present. We have signed up to the Airbnb enhanced cleaning protocol and reviewed advice on Covid-19 security from the Professional Association of Self Caterers UK and have adapted our management of the property accordingly.

We will have cleaned and sanitised hard and soft surfaces including doorknobs and light switches using professional products conforming to BS EN1276, EN 14476 and using extensive checklists for each area. We will also ask you to do your part in ensuring everyone's safety by taking note of our full Covid-19 protocols which are set out in detail in the House Manual - particularly with regard to things you need to do on departure.

To avoid any risk of Covid-19 contamination between guests, we are minimising the supplies we leave in the property. We will provide tea, coffee, milk, sugar, salt, pepper, olive oil.. We can also provide a complimentary pack of butter, our popular homemade bread and jam and, where available, eggs from our chickens - please let me know 48 hrs before arrival if at all possible. We will also provide toilet roll, kitchen roll, hand soap, shampoo, washing up liquid, bin liners & basic cleaning equipment.

Ryall, England, United Kingdom

You can take paths North, South, East or West out
of your door and enjoy some wonderful scenery each way. On a clear day, start by going up the (Hardown) hill behind - a ten minute stroll through an SSI heathland to enjoy the panoramic views to Portland, Golden cap, Lyme Regis and beyond. Up here, swathes of bluebells in Spring will be followed by purple sheets of Ling and Bell heathers during the Summer and clumps of giant parasol mushrooms in the Autumn. Coming down the other side of the hill, cross over to 200 acres of National Trust land with its scenic clifftop views and myriad of paths and fields leading to the Golden Cap, past St Wites Well. Or go the other way to the fossil beach and museum at Charmouth, When the tide is out you can walk on to Lyme Regis, the cobb and the attractions and quirky shops of the old town.

Alternatively, walk down Butt Lane alongside fields overlooking the sea to reach the ancient smugglers route along Hells Lane in North Chideock (described in Julia Bradburys book on Britains best walks). An atmospheric stroll along the narrowest of lanes with gnarled tree roots often at head height past etchings in the sandstone rock on each side, then finally out the other end in to the “normal world” through to the small village of Symondsbury adjoining Bridport. You can then walk back over the other side of the A35 to Seatown where there is an excellent pub "The Anchor" with great food by the beach. Alternatively you can bypass Hells Lane and cut down North Road straight into Chideock and up the diagonally opposite road to the Anchor Pub.

Coming out of the pub, returning to Chideock you could then catch the bus a couple of miles on to the historic rope-making town Bridport with its eclectic mix of shops and people and a regular vintage market. Stop by cafe (Soulshine) before continuing to West Bay (approximately a mile round the corner) with its famous cliffs (the setting for Broadchurch), smart cafe/gallery, Sladers yard and small antique market. There are several good restaurants here and also a fantastic fishmonger with takeaway packs of fresh shellfish. You can get the bus back to the end of our lane hourly and a cab if in the evening (see below).

Walking in a different direction yet again, inland, there is a lovely walk via our local village Whitchurch canonicorum taking in the Church of St Candida/St Wite) known as the Cathedral of the Vale, parts of which date back to 12th Century. Interred within for over 700 years is the Shrine of St Wite; the only other church in Britain with a similar shrine is Westminster Abbey. From this, you can walk (or cycle/drive) to Wootten Fitzpaine with some beautiful wildflower meadows where rarities such as Corky fruited water dropwort can be spotted along with more common drifts of wild narcissus, red clover, yellow rattle and various spotted orchids. Beyond this, Charmouth Forest has huge wooded areas of bluebells in Spring and makes a lovely walk through beech trees flanked in places by masses of Asplenium scolodenrium ferns.

Venturing further afield, Trinity Hill, home of Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall and nearby Trill Farm; the latter set in magnificent wildflower meadows provide further attractions at specific times of the year.

For horse-lovers, riding can be arranged in Hawkchurch with Woodhouse Stables over the many bridlepaths and woodland tracks, some overlooking the sea.

On a rainy day, the small museum at Lyme intriguingly set out around a spiral staircase provides a fascinating distraction. Continue on to the many quirky shops and fossil centre, perhaps taking coffee at the Giants and Idols coffee shop in Silver St or a light lunch at cafe Aroma set down below. Later on, the Harbour Inn near the Cobb is a good place to stop for an evening meal.

After a day exploring, you can return to see hawks and buzzards priming the fields, horseshoe bats rising and dipping across the hill and the odd deer flitting across the lane. At nighttime, Owls and badgers are frequent visitors, (there is a badger trail at the foot of our garden), Nightjars and Glow worms can sometimes be seen round the corner on and around Hardown Hill in July (this makes a wonderful moonlit walk less than 10 minutes away).

Hopefully, eating out will still be a possibility (given the current situation) at the following places: thee are several excellent nearby pubs (The Anchor Inn in Seatown is consistently good and reasonably priced) or The Olive Tree in Bridport is very popular; for a special occasion, The Station Kitchen in West Bay mostly set within a railway carriage is very good. Axminster also offers the popular River Cottage Canteen and a good pizza place. There are also several excellent pop up kitchens in Lyme Regis and Bridport including The Monmouth Table which is offering takeaways at the time of writing but this may change in July. Alternatively, eat in with fresh produce from the award winning farm shop, at the end of our road!

Phakathi nokuhlala kwakho
I will endeavour to meet and greet you from a safe social distance and answer any questions. However, you will be supplied with self check in instructions should you wish to arrive at a different time as long as its after 4pm (check in time). I live in the main house and am around some of the week and weekend with my partner and daughter. We are a quiet family and will respect your privacy - you should not be disturbed by us as the studio is completely separate from our house and has very thick walls. That said, you will almost certainly see us from time to time when we are in the garden. At weekends, we are out much of the time but I can usually be contacted by text or mobile and will be very happy to help you with any queries.
