Kiss all your cares goodbye, rest and relax, or seek out the many adventures here in the great north woods. Even during this crisis, I invite you to come to Bear's den where I am doing everything in my power to clean and disinfect my camp thoroughly between each guest. We are on a peninsula over looking Deep Cove and Ambajejus lake. Just 11 miles from Baxter St Park, 40 min to KATAHDIN Woods & Waters. For your comfort I just installed a New Frame for the Pull out Bed. Please read all sections.

Indawo
Bears Den is a cozy cabin nestled in the woods on 1.5 acres. It can sleep two or three Adults, or two adults and two children. The camp is Situated on a Peninsula over looking Deep Cove, and you have a beach on the other side of the road on Ambajejus lake with a view of Mt. Katahdin. Sunrise on the Cove Side, and Sunset on the Beach Side!! The views from the picture windows are stunning. The interior is all knotty pine, in classic Maine style. The kitchen is well appointed, and there is a full bathroom, but it is small, and it is not handicap accessible. I have an incinerator toilet, but Please don't use it without getting the instructions directly from me. There is a very comfortable Down Filled Sofa with a Chase Lounge. The Sofa converts to a Queen Size Bed, and I have just installed a new frame for 2021. It got broken in the fall of 2020. I will have instructions for you so this will not happen again. The camp side is very private, and the beach on the other side of the property is adjacent to my neighbors beach, so there is a chance you might see other people there. We are 25 minuets from Millinocket, and just 10 minuets from the North Woods Trading Post. We have our own Boat Ramp on the Causeway leading into camp. You also have access to 2 Kayaks, an old town canoe, and a Stand Up Paddleboard. There is also a small one man boat with a trolling motor. There are steps going into the camp, going into to the bathroom, and a dozen steps going down to the cove. Bears Den is in God's country. It's in a beautiful rugged part of Maine, but we are in the north woods 3 miles down a dirt road and up a rocky hill. The camp and surrounding areas are not accessible to individuals in a wheelchair or those who have trouble negotiating tight spaces.
Please be sure to read thru the listing completely, and have everyone in your party do so as well. It is important that everyone is clear about the directions, rules, amenities, and the little nuances listed here. I want you to have a happy, comfortable and safe vacation.

Ukungena kwesivakashi
In addition to the camp there is also an acre of land across the street with a path that leads down to the beach and an additional dock. It has a fabulous View of Mt Katahdin, and if your lucky, you could see the Northern Lights! I have one paddle board, a small One Person, or One plus a child boat, an Old Town Canoe, and Two kayaks that are available for you to use. You are welcome to bring any water craft and tie off at one of the two docks, or on my mooring ball. I also have two bins full of gear. Mask, Snorkels, Fins, Life Jackets, Beach Towels, Ect...... There is a vegetable garden down at the beach, and lots of seating. I also have a composting toilet as well as changing tent

Ezinye izinto okumele ziqashelwe
Bear's Den does not have Wi-Fi. if you have Verizon with a hotspot that will work for you while you are here.
If you're going to have a fire outside, Please be aware of the Wind , some days it's just not possible.
There are many ways to help you start a fire, I can assist you with that, but Please do not pull the bark off from the birch trees! This act will weaken the tree and eventually kill it!
Please bring your own firewood. There are several places along the road after you exit 95, or its available at the Katahdin General Store. I have my own stash of firewood, and in disparate times you may use some, but I urge you to replace what you take, or leave some cash to cover it. It is a lot of work and expense for me to keep my stock up for my own personal use during the cold months at camp. Thank you for understanding.
Please let me know your ETA as soon as possible. If it changes just let me know. It's very important that I am there to greet you so I can explain the use of the Incinerator toilet, and the use of the new Hide A Bed. As well as show you around the property. If for some reason you beat me to camp, please do not use the Incinerator toilet without my instruction.
I am asking guests to please bring their own sheets and towels. If your arriving via plane, I've got you covered. But there is no laundry facility here at camp.
Also, pack a pair of house slippers, the wood floors can be cold, and I have a no shoe policy in the Camp :)
Please do not drink the water from the faucet or from the shower. This water is pumped up from the lake. We have a natural spring out on the golden road, and the directions are on the fridge. So please bring ample water to drink and cook with, and when your coming and going from town or Baxter, you can stop and fill up your jugs.
If you are interested in fishing, the lake and surrounding waters, they are full of Bass, Trout, Salmon, pike and more. Please go online to purchase a fishing license, or you can get one at the Katahdin General Store on Bates Street.
I highly recommend that you grocery shop in Millinocket at the Hannaford before coming up to camp. It's on the way, and once you get up to camp, you won't want to go back out. Believe me here!! It's a long way in and out on Deep Cove Road.
If you're planning to go into Baxter State Park, you must do your research and be prepared.
You must call and reserve a parking space if you plan on hiking the mountain. Baxter does not allow pets, so you must make plans at Katahdin kritters in East Millinocket so that your dog will be taking care of during the day. Average hike is 8 to 12 hours, and it's not okay for you to leave your dog in my camp for that length of time. I am a dog lover, and I am happy to help take care of your pet when you climb if it's possible. We just have to arrange this prior to your stay. I also highly suggest you book a minimum of 3 nights so that you will have an opportunity to enjoy the lake, go for a paddle and a swim. I have learned that the extra day also gives you a second chance to climb in case of inclement weather. So remember to get the additional parking pass for the second day.
Kiss all your cares goodbye, rest and relax, or seek out the many adventures here in the great north woods. Even during this crisis, I invite you to come to Bear's den where I am doing everything in my power to clean and disinfect my camp thoroughly between each guest. Millinocket, Maine, i-United States

We are in God's country. It's an amazing beautiful place. Bears Den is located on a peninsula. The camp is wooded and very private, but there are several other camps around. Down at our beach there is another beach that belongs to the camp next door, so you may see other people or families. On the beach side at night it's very private for star gazing or using the firepit (weather Permitting) The neighbors firepit is on the other side of their camp, so you will not encounter them. We really are in the woods, so it can be extremely quiet, and you many not see anyone.
There are ton's of activities nearby, and some wonderful stores and restaurants.
The North Woods Trading post is the closest store and is on the way up to Baxter State Park. It has quick convivence store items, plus GREAT pizza, lobster rolls, and AMAZING homemade desserts as well as souvenirs and clothing. You can find them on Facebook. They also have a wonderful kids section!
Next door is the Big Moose Inn with a nice pub and local brews on tap.
Across the street is where the float plane takes off for sightseeing trips. It's an absolute must do!!!!!

Close by is River Drivers restaurant and the New England Outdoor Center which is my personal favorite place to eat. Please check out there Facebook Page and Website. The NEOC has so much to offer in addition to the Restaurant. They Rent all sorts of gear, mainly Mountain Bikes and over the last few years they have created the most incredible Trail System.

In downtown Millinocket you have the the Appalachian trail Café, but since Covid they are only doing takeout, and it's changed to a Mexican Restaurant. But, if you call ahead they will make you the best Doughnuts. Super Yum!

A Few Museums and Art Galleries are a must on a Rainy Day
If you choose adventure, there is White Water Rafting, Sky Diving, Pontoon Plane Rides, and so much more.
A side note, if you are planning on climbing Katahdin be sure to make a reservation, and don't underestimate the mightiness of this mountain. Please do your research, and be prepared for anything. I also strongly Suggest a Minimum 3 Night Stay for anyone Climbing. Note also there are no dogs allowed in Baxter State Park.

Please forgive me, I had all the links to the above suggestions here, but this section does not support links, so it was not visible ever!! Such a disappointment. I am working on finding somewhere else on this site to put them up. Back up plan is lot's of reading material at camp for you to look thru, and Googling anything else while you are making your plans ahead

Hello, My name is Nancy, and I am thrilled to know you are interested in staying at Bear's Den. I grew up in Rochester NY, and still have tons of family there. I spent 28 years in Naples Florida, and raised me family there. I have two daughters, one grandson, and huge extended family consisting of several exchange students and family's that stayed in my Air bnb in Florida. I love to travel, and meet new people. I am outgoing, funny, and I love life. My mom once said "you could drop my daughter Nancy out of a plane anywhere in the world, and within 15 minuets she would have a place to stay and friends for life" That sums me up pretty well.
