  • Ubuwena buqinisekisiwe
I first came to Nepal as a volunteer teacher in 2000 for 6 months. I set up the Mitrataa Foundation to empower girls and women through education and training initiatives soon after that. After 18 years, we currently provide education to over 200 students, run a farming and women's cooperative, run 2 kindergartens, provide training to teachers at over 10 schools amongst other projects. I fell in love with Matan Chhen the first time I saw it. I was looking for an apartment to rent in Kathmandu and ended up buying the whole house! In 2012, US television series, House Hunters International, filmed an episode about my journey to find Matan Chhen! I am passionate about sharing my love for Nepal with others. We decided to turn Matan Chhen into a boutique guest house to share it and our village with others. We are always here to share ideas, stories, information and knowledge with you. Recently, I was featured in the book, 200 Women Who Will Change The Way You View The World, which was such a privilege and exciting opportunity. I adopted my daughters, Nimu and Saraswoti, in 2011. My philosophy of life - laughter. learning. love. cuddles. conversations.
