Triora, Liguria, i-Italy

The village of Triora nestles deep in the heart of Liguria.
Its distance from the sea (30 kms) and its altitude (800m a.s.l.) account for its prevailing hill climate. The winter, however, is never extreme, because of the influence of the Mediterranean Sea and because the village, built on a slope facing south, enjoys long hours of sunshine and is not affected by the thermal inversion of the valley floor. Besides, the high mountain range of the Mediterranean Alps, with its peaks towering above 2000m, seals the upper end of the Argentina Valley, sheltering it from the northerly winds.
The area surrounding the village is almost entirely covered in woods and is the rambler’s and naturalist’s Paradise (bicycle lane for mountain bikers, route for rock climbers, water descents for canyoning, and more).
Known as “the witches’ village”, because of the famous trials held here by the Inquisition between 1587 and 1589 (evidence of which can be found in the local Ethnohistorian Museum - MES), Triora has been linked to the Republic of Genoa since 1261 and, therefore, embodies the best ligurian tradition…especially in cooking.
However, in two hamlets (Realdo and Verdeggia) people speak brigasco, owing to their centuries old connections with the Terra Brigasca (Tera Brigasca in the local dialect, Pays Brigasque in French); for this reason, the village is also associated with the Provençal area.
Triora is situated along the Provincial Road 548, which links Taggia to the village. Approaching it from the motorway (Autostrada dei Fiori A10), you should take the exit for Arma di Taggia in order to get to the village. The main train station is that of Taggia-Arma on the Ventimiglia- Genoa line, on the stretch between Ventimiglia and Savona.
The Aéroport Nice Còte d'Azur is about 90 km away.

The B&B “La Grande Foresta” is located at the entrance to the village and you can easily reach it, once you have parked the car on the Provincial Road 21, following the two “carugi”,called Via Camurata and via Poggio. Alternatively, you can get to the centre of the village and then walk down to the B&B, along the typical narrow lanes.
It is placed in a spot from which guests can enjoy breath-taking views of the three torrential valleys of Triora ... from the Latin "tria-ora" the translation of "three shores".

After studies in agriculture and a degree in philosophy, I worked in various sectors: from biological controls in agriculture to the treatment of drug addiction and psychiatric diseases. Over the years I have gained, thanks to these experiences, the desire for a "slow" lifestyle, far from economic or ideological competition. Aware that these aspirations imply being able to dispose of my time in my own way, I "took refuge" in Triora (my homeland); "difficult" place, but which allows this possibility to be realized. In fact, Triora is an "ancient" village, very far from the "artifices" to which we are accustomed; it is a village that is isolated enough to induce a different consideration of oneself and of reality. Here the past whispers in silence and "daily" imposes itself, with its needs and its rhythms...In some places the "particularities" are characteristic, in Triora they are the essence. I am also a ceramist by passion (I graduated in potter's wheel at the "G. Cova" school in Milan) and I have dedicated myself to this marvelous art for years, trying to give new shapes to the objects of use. Among the things I like to produce there are teaseats for tea and herbal teas, diffusers for essences, containers of various shapes and use (some objects are made using the ancient Japanese technique of raku). I sometimes like to play music with the accordion: music from Ireland (a place where I left a bit of my heart) and, of course, Occitane music ... Triora being part of this ethnic minority. The B & B is born, as well as supplementary income, from a need to engage the energies and reconcile opposites: "close", internalize and "open", share, communicate. I chose to adhere to the "comunity" of AIRBNB considering that, unlike other sites for the promotion of accommodation, the goal is not only to bring together supply and demand, but also to allow people to "talk", to exchange emotions and experiences, in an atmosphere of friendship and security. I am sure that this choice will help to broaden my horizons and my knowledge.
