A fully equipped one bedroom studio-style self-contained stone Bothy with stunning views and private beach access to Loch Rannoch. Nestled on the edge of 7 miles of Caledonian forest, it's the perfect place from which to explore the Highlands.
If you're looking for a quiet secluded space for R&R or want to get active cycling, hiking, fishing or boating, then Sadhana Bothy Retreat is for you. For solo visitors or couples, there's plenty to see and do all year round in a truly unique setting.

Indawo
Sadhana Bothy Retreat is delighted to be open again for bookings using the new enhanced Corvid-19 appropriate cleaning protocols to keep ourselves and our guests safe. The cottage is a simply decorated traditional stone Bothy with loch access to the front and forest access to the rear. Private entrance with self check-in with no direct neighbour allows you to maintain social distancing. No pets allowed. The self-contained cottage is set on the edge of the Blackwood forest nature reserve - the largest remaining fragment of temperate rainforest in the U.K. As our guests you will enjoy riparian rights to fish on the loch and to launch a non-motorised boat from our own private beach. From our cove you can see Glencoe and the Nevis range of mountains to the west, and the lovely Shiehallion to the east. You will be surrounded at every turn by incredible wildlife: golden eagles are a daily sighting and in the summer osprey dive into the Loch right outside your windows; late each evening deer come to drink from the loch; woodpeckers, red squirrels and pine martens all squabble over the bird table, while owls and bats fly past at night. Binoculars are great to bring. Inside the bothy, a new super-comfy double bed set in a cosy alcove and a deluxe Spa-style shower will add to your comfort. Full central heating and a multi-fuel stove will keep you snug in winter while the thick stone walls will keep you cool in summer. It's the perfect place to come home to and to rest weary legs after a day out exploring the area. If you're currently visiting Scotland, this is a must place to come and see; and since we're right in the centre of Scotland, from here you can visit the Trossachs, the Cairngorms, Loch Tay- or catch the train at Rannoch station, travel the 30 minutes to Fort William and climb Ben Nevis. If you're an artist, bring your paints - the bothy is north facing and the quality of light here is unbelievable. If you're looking for a pure Scottish Highland experience, then this space is made for you.

Ukungena kwesivakashi
At Sadhana Bothy Retreat you will have the bothy to yourselves. Its isolated situation means it’s easy to keep yourselves safe if you’re worried after the recent period of lockdown. There’s a small private front garden, and parking at the rear. We will continue to maintain social distancing and expanded cleaning protocols until guidelines suggest otherwise; so you can come for some safe R&R. From the back garden gate you can access over seven miles of the Rannoch Blackwood forest. You will, in addition, have access to our private beach from which you can enjoy the loch. This is the perfect spot from which to swim (bring a wetsuit) or launch your kayak or canoe to paddle your way along the 11 miles of Loch Rannoch. As riparian owners we have the right to fish on the loch, and this right is granted to our guests also for the duration of your stay with us. If you wish to fish other lochs or rivers you will need to obtain a fishing permit which we are very happy to advise on. If you're an angler, you'll be interested to know the Loch has brown trout, feroux trout, (managed) pike and the rare Arctic Char. Cyclists will enjoy the straightforward 22 mile circuit around the Loch or those wanting more of a challenge you can sign up for the Etape Caledonia during your stay. Walkers and hikers are spoiled for choice - climbing Shiehallion is a favourite of ours or following the old drovers' paths at the western end of the Loch towards the Bridge of Orchy. The very fit might like to walk the way-path all the way from Rannoch station to Fort William and catch the train back! We've not quite managed that one yet!

Ezinye izinto okumele ziqashelwe
Sadhana Bothy will be ready to welcome you with a cup of tea or coffee on your arrival but it's important to come well stocked up for your stay. Remember that the bothy is in a secluded rural setting - it's 7 miles from the nearest shop at Kinloch Rannoch (opening hours 8am - 6pm Monday-Friday. 10am-1pm Sunday). We anticipate that from 15th July 2020 local hostelries will be open for business; however bring plenty of provisions just in case the Macdonald resort hotel and at the Dunalastair hotel restaurants are fully booked with the reduced capacity. The nearest petrol stations are at Pitlochry (30 miles away) and Aberfeldy (27 miles away).
Also worth noting that all our water (for both the bungalow and the bothy) comes from a natural spring which is pumped through a state-of-the-art high-end filtration system. If you're not used to drinking natural Highland spring water you may be surprised to see that it is slightly brown. After a wee while, we hope you'll get a taste for this Scottish delicacy - you won't find purer or healthier water anywhere!
Please note there is no 4G phone signal at the Bothy. There is WiFi for you to check messages and travel plans. However it is not super fast broadband but by satellite due to the rural setting. We therefore ask you not to stream or download videos and to keep your phone on airplane mode when in the Bothy. This way we can all enjoy the benefits of using it (it’s no faster for us!).
We have an 8ft tender available for guest use at a fee by prior arrangement ONLY. If using the boat you will need to bring your own life jackets and be responsible for your own safety. We’d also recommend you bring a wetsuit so you can enjoy wild swimming in the loch. It’s cold but fabulous.
And finally, a word about midges. Scotland has a reputation for being midge infested over the summer months - and it certainly can be in some places. We have, however, invested in a midge-machine which keeps our one acre pretty well completely clear of them. In addition we recommend you bring a midge repellent that suits you for when you’re out-and-about Lochside in the early morning or in the evening. We keep a spare bottle in the Bothy for emergency guest-use, just in case you forget to bring your favourite brand.

Perth and Kinross, Scotland, i-United Kingdom

Sadhana Bothy Retreat is the perfect base from which to explore the area: the ‘fairy mountain’ Shiehallion at 1083m; the Etape Caledonia cycle route; the ‘whispering’ Blackwood, the largest remaining fragment of original temperate rainforest in Scotland. Catch the train from Rannoch to Fort William and climb Ben Nevis or continue further to the west-coast fishing village of Mallaig; spend a day at Loch Tay or at the nearby Queen’s View on Loch Tummel; visit Dewar’s whisky distillery, the Highland Chocolatier and Blair Castle; go shopping at the nearby House of Bruar; or stand before the world’s oldest living tree, the Fortingal Yew.
Closer to home, around the Loch, you can enjoy an afternoon horse riding, an exhilarating boat trip, or hire a bicycle to explore the area at your own pace. At the eastern end of the Loch you will find Kinloch Rannoch village with a well-stocked Country Store boasting local produce including meats from the Rannoch Smokery; the Riverbank Café for teas and light lunches; the Shed Gallery exhibiting local artists and Edina’s Kitchen, offering an a la carte evening menu and a scrumptious afternoon tea.
Having toured all over Scotland over the past 9 years, we can assure you that this place is special: mountains, lochs, deep forests, world famous salmon rivers, wildlife at every turn- incredible tranquillity and beauty whatever-the-weather, we're confident you will fall in love with Loch Rannoch and the surrounding area just as we have.

Peter and I recently took early retirement and moved from Wales to the Highlands of Scotland because we absolutely LOVE it here. Peter is a life-long fly fisherman and I’m a horse-rider, swimmer in wild mountain lakes and now lochs (which definitely requires a wetsuit!); and we’re just beginning to enjoy the pleasures of having our own boat and getting back into cycling. It’d be impossible to put into words how much more beautiful and well-suited to us this place is than we’d even dreamed. After we left Wales we toured Scotland for 9 months in our motorhome looking for our dream retirement place. We spent Christmas parked up in the snow on the Isle of Arran, got snowed in at Glen Nevis, watched Minke whales on the Isle of Mull and enjoyed adventure after adventure. We knew what we were looking for but simply couldn't find it. Friends and family helped us to hold onto our dream during those long snowy winter months touring in the motorhome. The day we crossed the threshold of Blackwood Lodge bungalow and walked round the Bothy, we knew this was it. We were HOME. As each month passes, we love it here more and more. From our beach you can see the snow-clad Nevis range of mountains to the west and the lovely Shiehallion just 8 miles to the east. From Blackwood Lodge, next door to Sadhana Bothy Retreat, we can see so much incredible wildlife – just yesterday we were sitting outside having lunch when a golden eagle landed in a tree not 40 meters from us. Its wing span as it took off and flew through the Caledonian forest that borders our place, was simply awesome. We just looked at each other and burst out laughing! This amazing place is made for sharing and so we hope to be able to welcome many, many guests to have your own awesome adventures here. We so look forward to meeting you.
