#Built in 1833, this provençal stone "mas" was a relay on the postal route. Located an hour west of Avignon, in the Occitan region, our unique retreat is situated in a natural, park-like setting, near vineyards with vistas of forests and few neighbors, at the end of a private road. Our home has been entirely remodeled using traditional methods to retain the historic character. A natural way to socially distance. Extended booking possible.#

Mas is an Occitan word for a traditional farmhouse located in Provence and the Midi region. If we haven’t gushed enough already it’s truly unique property which is perfect for a long stay – and inducive to creative pursuits. Book a long stay and finish your novel/screenplay or bring your paints!

It’s a large property with ample space for guests to roam and find a niche to make their own. It is decorated with multi-generational family furniture that we hope you’ll enjoy and respect.

**Check out photos of our the recently added bathroom and finished bedrooms with "poutres apparentes" ! **

Children are welcome--and there is plenty of old-fashioned things to discover—but hands on parental supervision suggested.

The house has three levels, with stairs leading up to the main level from both entrances as well as in the main living areas.

The GROUND LEVEL features:
•Parking (covered area for one car, with additional spaced to park)
•Outdoor dining room/salle d’ete
•Courtyard/yard with olive trees
•A cave with the washing machine (we use the bright sun to dry the clothes and do not have a dryer)

•Accessing from courtyard up a dozen stairs, we enter the KITCHEN which is equipped with a wide array of dishes and cooking implements as well as:
Oven with electric stove top
•Dining table
•An old-fashioned brick oven (NOT useable)
•The KITCHEN TERRACE has a café table as is a wonderful spot to watch the sun set.
•Turning left from the kitchen is the OFFICE/LIBRARY with the SECOND SITTING ROOM beyond which has a convertible sofa should someone need some extra sleeping space. The windows overlook the courtyard and open to let in nature (no screens!) OFFICE/LIBRARY has TV with DVD player.
•From the OFFICE/LIBRARY there’s a dressing area (watch your head on the lintel!) with closet space that leads past the main TOILET (sink & toilet) and leads to the MASTER BEDROOM

QUEEN BED (160 x 190) with bathing area which is a hot tub with a hand-held shower & an amazing view window + a sink/cupboard. The room boasts wood beams & a working fireplace. To me, it is the space most evocative of the time the house was built.
•We believe the rooms in this “wing” comprised the original structure of the postal relay, which was later expanded.
•Three stairs lead from kitchen to the big SITTING ROOM which has a working fireplace and a dining room table that seats 6+ people. There’s a chess board and some games to play.
•The stairway leads to the UPPER LEVEL which has been recently renovates. There are 3 sleeping BEDROOMS (plus a mezzanine with 2 twin beds) and 2 complete BATHROOMS on this level.
oMEZZANINE – two twin beds
oBEDROOM #1 – Queen bed with armoire
oBEDROOM #2 – Queen bed plus single bed
oBEDROOM #3 – Queen bed
oBATHROOM #1 – Toilet, standing shower & sink
oBATHROOM #2 – toilet, bathtub with hand held shower, sink

Saint-André-d'Olérargues, Occitanie, i-France

We are located on the border of Provence and the Languedoc-Roussillon region, in the Occitanie region mostly recognized for the Pont-du-Gard, an amazing aqueduct built by the Romans (see photo) .

West Provence is much less developed and more authentic than the more popular Provence (i.e the Luberon). It's in the Côtes du Rhone wine region in an area known for truffles and terroir.

Nearby cities and villages dating from the Middle Ages give the region its unique character and much to discover including castles, forts, Roman ruins, Templar strongholds and several caves and grottos, etc.

There are hiking and mountain biking trails accessible from the house. And not too far away is a “manade” with animals including bulls, open to the public. There’s also a place to fish (on the road to Goudargues) and a few golf courses. There’s also the Haribo museum, maker of gummy bears.

Swimming and kayaking are possible in the river outside of Goudargues. Bring your swimsuit, sunscreen and bug spray!

Within in one hour:
•Avignon (45 minutes) with its Palais of the Popes;
•Nimes with its Roman arenas and where denim was first created (45 minutes);
•Arles ( a major Roman city where the artist Van Gogh stayed and painted for a year);
•Uzès (30 minutes) our favorite medieval town with its world renown Saturday farmer’s market and truffle festival in January.

Three of the most beautiful villages in France” are in the Gard department within 20 km including: Aiguèze , La Roque sur Ceze and Montclus.

-Beaches and port cities including Sete and Aigues Mortes
