If you are a nature lover who is also interested in a cultural experience, this is for you! The setting offers close contact with both forest and life in a rural area, as well as close access to town and tourist attractions.

We strive to offer true hospitality to all of our guests and authentic human interaction to those who are interested. Ask about our nearby organic garden project!

Casa Libelula is our studio apartment, hand-crafted with care and creativity, nestled against the forest above the creek.

The apartment is completely furnished with a well equipped mini kitchen, hot water, fibre optic internet access and the extra bonus of artistic features like stained glass accents, wood floors, and local artwork.

We hope you will feel at home and not lack for anything, but always encourage our guests to let us know if there is something we might be able to provide to further enhance their experience.

We hope that you enjoy your visit to our small, rural neighborhood just outside of town, and revel in its rich natural and cultural diversity. On one side, your closest neighbors will include mostly the furred and feathered type, and across the lane live the Costa Rican families who own and run the Area de Conservacion Don Rodolfo and Green Tree BNB.

Right from bed, you can be dazzled by the presence of frequent visitors at your window--with luck, one of the local sloths, emerald toucanets, white-nosed coatimundis, squirrel cuckoos, blue-crowned motmots and more will swing by for a visit! If you forget your alarm clock, don't fret as the rooster chorus will give you a wake-up call at the perfect moment for a birding walk in our back forest.

If you are interested in human interaction, you will enjoy the bright-eyed smiles of the neighbour children as they ride by on their bikes, and you are always welcome to visit with us, as we live just across the yard. Beth originally came from Canada to teach at one of the small, bilingual, alternative schools and found her "heart-home" here in Monteverde. Manolo was born nearby, and is always interested in chatting about how he has seen the área change and how life has been as he dances through a life full of cultural challenges. You will hopefully automatically enjoy his background in construction, but feel free to ask about his more newly found passion as a naturalist guide.

Our 2 children are inevitably a product of our bicultural existance, and they weave artfully between both languages and cultures. It depends on the timing of your visit if either will be present, as 17 year old Amaro is yearning for the chance to finish up high school close to his grandparents on Vancouver Island, and 21 year old Nati is back from her au pair experience in Australia, but already planning where next to wander.

All in all, we are passionate about sharing the love for our community and the magic of our natural setting, as well as making sure you feel at home in our home!

Monteverde, Puntarenas, i-Costa Rica

We live in the rural neighborhood of Bajo Rodriguez en Los Llanos, which is just oustide of the commercial center of Santa Elena. We have Costa Rican neighbors on one side and forest/creek on the other. We offer a somewhat 'off the beaten track'feel, but not too far out of town and access to tourist attractions. Great birding right outside your door!

Santa Elena-Monteverde includes a multitude of smaller communities that lie the border between the provinces of Puntarenas and Guanacaste. We are situated on the top of a mountain in the Tilaran mountain range. From various places in the zone, there are breathtaking views of Arenal Volcano and the Gulf of Nicoya from afar. It is about a 3 hour drive as you wind your way up from the international highway, with spectacular views of the San Luis valley below along the route. You can travel here through Las Juntas or Sardinal. Escape the heat of the lowlands as you climb into our green mountain home!

Monteverde is most famous for its cloud forest, left as a watershed by the original Costa Rican and Quaker residents. Visitors can enjoy a wide variety of attractions, including much for the ecologically minded tourist with options for both education and adventure. Enjoy a guided day or night tour of many trail systems with a local naturalist, visit the Butterfly Garden, Bat Museum, or Frog Pond, whiz through a zipline canopy tour, or search out local artists at their galleries. . Music lovers will want to keep an eye on the Monteverde Institute calendar for the concerts they sponser every once in a while, or check out the Saturday night square dance once a month at the Friends school. Latin dancing in Santa Elena is a more regular event, and Manolo and I, though too old and wimpy to be out really late, might be convinced to accompany you and share our love of this pasttime!!

Monteverde is truly the perfect site both for nature lovers and those interested in rich cultural diversity.
