For a holiday you’ll always remember, The Tower is a unique property that the whole family will love. Built in 1934, its interior has been decorated in keeping with the date of construction, with simple, elegant features such as a large, plain white free-standing bathtub and white ceramic tiles. Subtle touches like floor lighting and underfloor heating throughout add to the elegance.

There are three storeys, with a study on the ground floor, and bedrooms, snug room and bathrooms on the second floor. The top floor is the piece de resistance, with an open plan lounge, dining area and kitchen. Here, the 12-meter-wide glass wall opens out onto a large balustraded terrace, where you can enjoy stunning views across the River Crouch to Southend and the North Downs beyond. No wonder the property recently won Maldon’s Building Conservation Award.

This is a delightful area of the country, with the undulating landscapes of the South Downs and historic towns of Maldon to enjoy and explore. What better way to experience it all than in your very own historic building? The holiday snaps are bound to be something special!

Attractions and nearby amenities
Burnham-on-Crouch was once an oyster port, and there’s still a nautical feel in this picturesque town. The quay here is known as the ‘Cowes of the East Coast’ and you can take a ferry trip from here over the River Crouch. Boats are also available to hire, and there are plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants to explore too.
If you take that ferry from Burnham-on-Crouch, you’ll arrive at the Essex Marina, from where you can walk to RSPB’s Wallasea Island. This is an ongoing project to recreate a vast landscape of ancient wetlands and salt marsh. In the summer, you’ll see flocks of terns, and in the winter the landscape is filled with literally thousands of waders and wildfowl.
Overlooking the Blackwater estuary, Maldon is an ancient Essex town with medieval timbered buildings and contemporary shops. Old Thames barges are moored at Hythe Quay, and you can get to see more of this unique maritime landscape by taking a boat trip on one of these old craft.
If you’re hoping for a historic holiday, make sure to visit The Chapel of St Peter-on-the-Wall. This is the oldest church in England, dating back to 654AD. This tranquil building is at the end of the St Peters Way walk, and has superb views of the coast.
Green-fingered visitors will love a trip to the RHS Garden Hyde Hall, a 360-acre estate with fascinating and ever-changing garden areas, like the Dry Garden or the Hilltop Garden. It’s not all plants either – keep your eyes peeled for brown hares, as well as butterflies and birds.
At the end of the Chelmer & Blackwater canal, you’ll find Heybridge Basin, where a sea lock links the canal to the Blackwater estuary. There are plenty of coastal walks to enjoy from here, or you can just sit and enjoy a meal at one of the two pubs, looking out on all the maritime activity.
