Shadow Mountain House is a newly-built, cutting edge oasis in the middle of the internationally-recognized gem of Joshua Tree, California. Once an outdated Mojave Desert homestead, this property has been transformed into a modern desert lover’s dream. With thoughtful design and contemporary smart-home upgrades, guests only have to show up to ease into a relaxing and truly unique experience.

Indawo
Mid-century modern, desert-inspired décor is minimalist to calm the mind without compromising warmth and comfort. The open floor plan of the living space includes 30’ of Fleetwood sliding glass doors that open to a fully-furnished patio that blurs the separation of indoor and outdoor, extending the desert landscape right into the house. The expansive mountain views from every vantage point create the perfect backdrop to an unforgettable desert getaway.

The house is comprised of 2 bedrooms (1 with a Floyd bedframe and Tuft and Needle king mattress, 1 with a Serta queen mattress), 2 full baths, and a chic convertible couch that turns into a comfy bed. It sleeps 5 adults comfortably or 6 (4 adults and 2 kiddos). The property is situated on a 5-acre lot with awesome, 360 degree desert views. The sunsets will leave you breathless. After the sun disappears behind the neighboring mountain, the property falls into shadow while the sky stays a glowing rainbow of fading light, hence the name Shadow Mountain House. With the low light pollution, it is mandatory to spend a couple hours at night on the patio or in the brand new hot tub looking up at the endless stars and galaxies above.

Shadow Mountain House is a 5 minute drive from the heart of town, where you can find Joshua Tree Coffee Roasters, The Station, Joshua Tree Saloon, a liquor store, and a farmers market, amid many other local haunts. We are just north of the main road and approximately 15 minutes by car from the entrance of Joshua Tree National Park. This is important to note because many other properties are 20 minutes (of bumpy, dirt roads) away from coffee/food and over 30 minutes from the park entrance.

Native vegetation on the property include Joshua Trees and Cholla, one of our favorite native species, that radiate with a gorgeous glow at sunset. Amid the flora, roadrunners, quails, lizards & black-tailed jackrabbits run wild on Shadow Mountain House’s 5 acres of the Mojave Desert.

Below are some recommendations for things to do around town. Please be sure to take a look at the tablet provided for updated local sights and things to do.

Joshua Tree National Park, often the main draw for visitors, is located less than a 15 minute drive from the park entrance. The fee is $20 for the day or $30 for an annual pass. There are some free entrance days so be sure to check the website for these dates & further information.

Noah Purifoy Exhibit - This outdoor art exhibit is located 10-15 minutes away and is a must see for all art lovers. Noah Purifoy’s installations have been in galleries across the country and this exhibit is a true testament to his amazing work.

The Integratron - An unforgettable sound experience for those seeking deep relaxation and rejuvenation. Sound baths are by appointment only via online booking or phone. The Integratron is located about 20 minutes away and worth every minute.

RESTAURANTS

Country Kitchen is perfect for a delicious diner breakfast and home-cooked comfort food.

Crossroads Cafe is a breakfast and lunch hot spot with a wide range of options, including vegan/vegetarian options.

Landers Brew Co - If you are looking for a good beer, surrounded by beautiful desert scenery, LBC is the spot. With a friendly staff and great selection of drafts and bottles, you can't go wrong. Definitely a must for beer lovers! The 20 minute drive will prove to be worth the trip as you enjoy a brew on the patio while listening to some local live music.

Pie For The People is hands down the best pizza in town.

Natural Sisters specializes in vegetarian cuisine with large portions and hearty salads.

Joshua Tree Saloon is right down the street and a perfect spot for live music, drinks. Be sure to have some BBQ or Mahi Mahi Tacos.

Pappy and Harriets in Pioneertown is a world-famous destination for music lovers. We highly recommend that you make a reservation in advance to ensure a table.
