This cozy cottage sits on a large property that is surrounded by pastoral farms and vineyards. It is a retreat where you can escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, read, write, take walks in the country, paint, bird-watch, reconnect with nature, have meals cooked for you and then dine under a galaxy of stars. Within 15 minutes is the Rio Miño that borders Portugal. The Atlantic Ocean is an easy 30 minute drive, and Rías Baixas wineries are at our doorstep.

The cottage is surrounded by trees and set back from the main house with a view of the pool. The cottage consists of two buildings, the main building has a double bed which faces the windows looking out to nature. There is a small kitchen and dining area. The kitchen has a substantial countertop oven, induction hot plate, toaster, coffee maker and refrigerator. The bathroom/shower is in this main building. The small building directly next door consists of a lounge/dining area. There is a small deck with a little dining table and a wicker table and chair ideal for reading or bird watching.

The Bird and the Bell Guesthouse Cottage is located in a very rural area surrounded by hills, trees and fields where church bells still chime to mark every hour. Sheep and goats graze in the farm adjacent to us and you will hear roosters crow.
The geographic area where we are located is called Rías Baixas and is famous for the production of albairño grapes. There are many wineries within close proximity where we can arrange tours and tastings.
There is great biking, hiking and kayaking on our doorstep.
Nearby Portugal has excellent surfing and kite sailing.
There are Celtic ruins nearby in A Guarda and the ancient town of Tui, with its Roman walls, is a 25 minute drive from the house.
There are antique markets weekly and farmers markets nearly everyday.
In the summer, there are more festivals than there is space to list, including the excellent O Rosal Wine Festival.
Within a half hour drive of the house, you can connect with the Coastal Portuguese Camino de Santiago and spend a day, or afternoon, walking The Camino. The only pack you'll have to carry is the picnic we pack for you.

We moved from the San Francisco Bay Area to the Southern Rías Baixas region of Galicia in 2018. We love the "Galifornia" vibe here from the stunning Atlantic beaches to the beautiful Rio Miño and the gorgeous vine covered hills. We wanted to create a place in Spain for visitors to enjoy the hospitality skills that we have honed over the last 30 years working at some of the premier restaurants in the Bay Area, including, Chez Panisse, Restaurant Gary Danko, Boulevard and The Progress.

We live in the main house on the property, but we give our guests privacy and don't use the property when we have guests staying, so you will have the pool and garden to yourself. We will be available during your entire stay to help plan outings, answer questions, make recommendations, and even cook for you, by prior arrangement. We have worked in some of the best restaurants in the San Francisco Bay Area, including Chez Panisse, The Progress, and Restaurant Gary Danko.
