Your hosts, Tom and Lisa Wallace, are happy to welcome you to The Chez' Tree Rest, our 2 story treehouse perfectly perched under a heavily canopied scenic hillside 35' above the forest floor on 2 towering Maple trees. As you walk to the treehouse across the 60' cable bridge you will feel the stress and cares of everyday life melt away. The treehouse is 150 square feet of pure magic and the perfect spot for a romantic getaway high up in the trees.

Indawo
Our treehouse is located on 17 acres of hardwood forest just outside of the sleepy village of Lafayette, NY - 10 miles south of Syracuse, NY and 24 miles north of Cortland, NY. Just a very short drive to wine country and the Finger Lakes region. As you arrive at the property, you will find a modest sign and a dirt road which leads down a 1/4 mile drive (or walk) to the treehouse. The reason we say drive or walk is because, in times of inclement weather, the 1/4 mile "road" to the treehouse can become muddy which will prohibit most vehicles from being able to safely drive up and down the road. When the weather is dry, the road can be driven without an issue, - however, when we have had some rain, or if rain is in the forecast, the road may be muddy and guests will have to walk the 1/4 mile road down and back (uphill) to and from the treehouse. (Bring boots in case of rain). Also, bring a flashlight in case you come back from dinner after dark!
The treehouse itself is accessed across a 60' cable bridge. There are only a few (7) stone steps which lead down to the bridge and then it is an easy walk up to the treehouse. Below the treehouse is a large, (320 square feet), deck with a fire pit table and ample seating. The deck also provides the location of the shower (with on demand hot water) and a propane BBQ grill. There is also a separate fire pit area below the treehouse which has plenty of seating and a stone edged fire ring.
For off the grid purists, there are oil lamps which provide a warm, relaxing ambiance - perfect for the romantics. There is also a convenient, tiny bathroom in the treehouse with a composting toilet. If you can't survive without the creature comforts however, there is a battery bank and power inverter for quiet electricity. Additionally, when the battery bank runs low, there is a remote controlled generator which can be turned on and off at the push of a button to recharge the battery bank. We encourage you to use electricity only on a limited basis when needed. There is hot and cold running water (pumped up from the creek so not to be used for drinking or cooking - fresh drinking water is provided separately), which is accessible without the use of electricity. There is also a small, propane powered mini-fridge with a small freezer. There is a great deal of outdoor relaxing space on the treehouse level as well. There is approximately 80 square feet of decking connected to the treehouse. In addition, there is a separate 12' octagon deck that is anchored on a separate tree connected to the main deck by another 30' cable bridge.
For cooking, we provide a propane camp stove. Perfect for bacon and eggs. There is also a BBQ grill on the lower deck below the treehouse. Coffee can be made either by using the French Press or traditional percolator - both of which we provide for your use. All the pots, pans, silverware and other utensils you should need will be provided.
Let the trees gently sway you to sleep amidst the soothing sounds of hoot owls and the babbling brook.

The treehouse is located on a 17 acre hardwood forest. Much of the property around the treehouse is not posted and can be explored. Nature lovers will enjoy roaming the grounds and looking up at the towering hardwood trees. If you are looking for rest and relaxation, there is no need to leave the property. If you would like to venture off property however, the village of Lafayette has a great small town diner that produces amazing breakfasts. The homemade corn beef hash is highly recommended. Beyond that, wine country is a very short drive to the west down scenic Rt. 20. The village of Skaneateles is highly recommended for its beautiful location on the north end of Skaneateles Lake, quaint shops and amazing restaurants. To the east on Rt 20, is the small village of Cazenovia is another popular destination within a short drive. Be sure to get dinner at the Brae Loch Inn! Hi, my name is Tom Wallace. My wife Lisa and I have been married for over 34 years. In the summer, we live in Lafayette, NY. - just 1/4 mile down the road from the entrance to the treehouse. Back in 2016, (after Tom retired from owning a printing company), we had a desire to build a wonderful place to spend time together with family and friends. Our search brought us upon this beautiful piece of hardwood forest. As I walked down the hill, I came upon the most wonderful spot - a forested side hill overlooking a lovely babbling brook. I knew I had to build a treehouse on that spot. We are delighted to now make the treehouse available to guests so that they can share the wonder that we experience every time we are able to stay there.

Phakathi nokuhlala kwakho
My wife Lisa and I make our home just 1/4 mile up the road from the entrance to the treehouse property. Close proximity means that we are almost always available to promptly see to your needs for your stay. At the same time, we respect your privacy and if you don’t need something attended to immediately, you probably won’t see us. We do make a visit down on the 2nd day of your stay - usually around 5 pm - in order to service the toilet, generator and battery bank. This is usually a 10 minute visit. You don’t need to be at the treehouse when we come.
