The Place is an exceptional 17th c farmhouse for 8 with stunning lake views, at the head of Loweswater in the beautiful, quiet north western Lake District. Full of charming original features, gracefully furnished, it is a delight to come home to.

Indawo
The Place dates from at least 1664 - there's a carved plaque in the sitting room attesting to this! While comfortably sleeping up to 8 people, the cottage is cosy enough for a much smaller group to feel snug and at home. You will find The Place at the top of a private lane ('lonning' in west Cumbrian dialect) at the head of the lake, next to a quiet working farm and benefits from a wonderful sense of remoteness, while being only 7 miles from the lovely Georgian town of Cockermouth and 12 from bustling Keswick.
It is full of character, with ancient beams, bread oven and salt cellar, slate floors and a comfortable mix of antique and contemporary furniture. There are four bedrooms, with velvet quilts and woollen throws, including a top quality king size zip and link on the ground floor which can be made up as two (slightly narrow) singles if required and notice given. Up the astonishing slate staircase you will find a double bedroom and a kingsize bedroom, both with wonderful views of the lake and the fells, and a pretty twin bedroom. There is family bathroom up here with a roll top bath, separate shower and toilet, and another separate toilet on this top corridor. Downstairs there is a modern shower room and toilet. While not fully accessible the ground floor accommodation may be suitable for those with limited mobility. There are log burning stoves in both the enchanting dining room and the cosy sitting room, oil-fired central heating and underfloor heating, and each of the top quality beds has a heated mattress cover so you will certainly always feel toasty warm. The kitchen boasts hand made units, cntemporary induction range cooker and American style fridge freezer and is brilliantly equipped with everything the modern cook or family could require - including a Nespresso machine, a Gaggia espresso maker and a Samsung breadmaker for that intoxicating smell in the morning. Books everywhere, original paintings, modern LED wide screen TV and AV equipment, a large selection of DVDs and Blue-rays to borrow and board games galore make this the cosiest spot to kick back and spend relaxing time with your friends or family. The Games Barn houses table tennis, a pool table and table football, and a box full of garden games, badminton, quoits, swing ball etc. There is ample storage for up to 8 bikes, the garden is large and enclosed, with lawns and secret areas, a stunning garden studio with a verandah and views down the garden to the lake and the fells beyond, a dining terrace for 8, BBQ and brazier, and sitting out spots with wonderful vistas in every direction.

The surrounding area is spectacularly beautiful and relatively unknown, leaving it tranquil and unspoilt. Walks/bike rides from the door aplenty, including the essential 'Corpse Road' walk on the terrace above the house which leads to sensational views over Loweswater and neighbouring Crummock Water and the fells surrounding. A leisurely mile and half stroll through Holme Wood takes you to the famous and delightful Kirkstile Inn. Make sure you sample at least one of their very own award-winning brews - Loweswater Gold is our favourite to sip in their beautiful garden gazing at the imposing bulk of Melbreak. The food is really good and the service spot on.

Three night minimum stay. Short breaks are Mondays to Fridays, or Fridays to Mondays . These are not usually available during high seasons when 7 nights Friday to Friday is the minimum stay.
One well-behaved dog is very welcome. However, for the sake of our guests with allergies, we must insist that dogs sleep in their own crates in the boot room over night, and do not go on the furniture or into the bedrooms. We are surrounded by livestock and dogs must be kept under strict control at all times.

Loweswater, England, i-United Kingdom

Loweswater is a little-visited hidden gem of the World Heritage Site of the Lake District, in the North west of the UK. We are situated at the northern end, up a private lane we share with our only close neighbours, the farmers at Hudson Place who are the nicest people you could meet. The lake, which is managed by the National Trust, is the smallest in the whole area and has the interesting distinction of being the only one that flows away from the sea, joining Crummock Water, before continuing to famous Buttermere and out to the sea at the West Coast. You may swim in the lake and licences are available to buy from the NT ranger for paddled craft (no sailing or motors) and fishing but care must be taken that its essential tranquillity is unbroken. Ancient woodland - Holme Wood - cloaks the lower reaches of the surrounding fells and the tops provide some wonderful hikes. The famous tops and tourist spots of the Lake District are easily accessible via the wonderful mountain passes of Whinlatter and Honister, but there are endless stunning walks, mountain bike rides or road cycles from the door. The Georgian gem town of Cockermouth is a mere 7 miles scenic drive away and boasts a variety of culinary delights, antique shops and pretty painted fronts. Lovely Keswick is 12 miles away on the shore of stunning Derwent water, where you can boat and walk, or take in a show at the wonderful Theatre on the Lake. There are endless possibilities for adventure and relaxation in the Lake District - all areas are easily accessible by car.

Nick and I are self-employed and live very happily in South East London with our teenage son. Our greatest pleasure and relaxation comes from walking in the Lake District. We were lucky enough to have the opportunity to purchase The Place,Loweswater at the end of 2014 and have renovated it with great love and respect. It is our dream come true and we are genuinely delighted to share its profound calm with other guests who we know will love it too. We love our London base too! Perched on the hill in the leafy suburb of Honor Oak, surrounded by green spaces, 8 minutes walk to Honor Oak station (12 minute journey into Zone 1!) and with the most sensational panoramic views of London, we have the best of both worlds. We are delighted to share it with Air BnB fans like us and pride ourselves on providing a very high level of comfort and convenience for our guests.
