This charming, traditional Irish cottage has been fully restored and is uniquely situated on an outcrop of rock.It has a walled garden which is washed on two sides by the sea. It has a stunning location, with breathtaking views out over the sea to Fair Head, Rathlin Island, Kenbane and the Scottish coast. The cottage accommodates four and has an open fire and oil fired central heating.

Indawo
The cottage has an incredible location perched directly above the mythical Sea of Moyle. There are uninterrupted views of Kenbane, Rathlin Island and Fair ahead.
There is easy access to a long and sandy beach.
It is situated on the edge of mature and beautiful gardens and is an ideal spot to experience the beauty of living on the edge of the sea.
There is private off road parking, an estensive patio area and a small, cottage garden. As this area is planted out with flowers and shrubs no ball games are permitted.
The photographs of the long terrace overlooking the sea give a clear view of the stunning situation of the cottage.
The patio area is directly above a salt pan which is the only one in situ in Ireland. This was excavated in 2015 by a team of marine archaeologists from the University of Ulster.
Their work can be viewed by googling Ballycastle's
Salt Industry.
The cottage and its walls are all part of the salt works that were abandoned around 1800, after operating here from the 17th century.
Some of the stones forming the walls are medieval.
This is a restored, Irish cottage which was situated on the edge of land my family purchased, when they first came to live on the mainland from Rathlin Island in 1890.
Although a much larger family home was built by 1895, the cottage was always a favoured place and is a much loved part of my family history.
We have sought to preserve the traditional style and charm of this 200:year old building.
Inside the cottage there are two bedrooms, which are are quite spacious..
The kitchen is small but fully equipped with fridge, oven, small freezer, washer/dryer, microwave and extractor fan.
There is a new and very effective oil fired central heating system, so the cottage is very warm and there is also an open fire.
Milk, tea, coffee, breads, cereals and cakes are complimentary.
The bathroom has a shower-no bath.
However, it is perfectly adequate.
There is a heated towel rail, wc and wash hand basin.
Towels, shampoo and soaps are provided.
There is safe off road parking for one car.

I live in Ballycastle. My family came to the north Antrim coast from nearby Rathlin Island in 1890. The cottage sat overlooking the sea, right on the edge of the land they purchased and interestingly, it was built alongside an old Salt store and a half buried salt pan. The salt store was later to became a Fever Hospital, after the saltworks ceased in 1800. However, the hospital had closed by 1830. The walls around the cottage are part of the original structure. Down the generations, we have maintained the cottage and it’s gardens and in recent years, lovingly restored it. It has a special part in our our family history. I enjoy meeting our guests and sharing this special, unique location with them.
