OUR SAFETY RESPONSE TO COVID-19:
Unlike typical Airbnb homestays, we are a licensed and permitted facility that is operated by professionals since 1998, is properly insured, and complies with local, county, state and federal regulations. However, unlike at typical hotels, you won’t have to fear close contact with other people on our property. Our land is vast and remote and features many outdoor places (and yes, nature rules)! We are a safe haven where you can experience holistic healthy living. On the North Shore we are blessed with trade-winds, so we have no need for air-conditioners. Our water is provided by a well with the most delicious alkaline water from the volcanic aquifer. Our organic garden provides greens for your super smoothies and our coconut kefir will enhance your well-being.

On top of traditional cleaning procedures, we also clean each room with commercial ozonator machines and essential oils. All linens are sanitized in high-temperature wash and high-traffic areas are regularly sanitized. Hand sanitizer is available to guests and staff, and staff are required to regularly wash hands. We take our guest safety seriously and exercise extreme caution.

We are a bed and breakfast staffed by our family and community—because we all safely live together on the property as a community, we don’t wear face masks among each other. However, we will wear face masks when interacting with guests and will exercise social distancing. For example, our check-in is social-distanced because we enjoy being able to welcome guests, show them around our beautiful property and explain how to navigate a totally sustainable land. We do not require that guests wear face masks around the property, but suggest that you wear a face mask when interacting with people you are not familiar with. We would appreciate if you could bring your own face mask!

ABOUT OUR DOLPHIN ROOM:
Our Dolphin Room, located on the ground floor of our beautiful and spacious main guest house (The Opua House), has a private bathroom and shower. This room is named after the legendary dolphin scientist Dr. John C. Lilly, who loved spending time here. It features some of Dr. Lilly's books, and in his honor, we've captured the spirit of the dolphin. The ethereal private bathroom is created by a well-known Venetian plaster artist featuring a glass vessel resting on a dolphin—hand carved from sand stone, intricately decorated with shells and hand painted. The mirror is also hand-made by a California artist. The rain shower changes the light according to the water and the jets are set to give you a great massage. The uniquely designed bamboo bed is perfect for couples or singles. All our rooms are decorated with a special touch and yet nothing comes close to where we are located - pure natural bliss.

This corner room has sliding glass doors on both sides, opening to a stunning Brazilian pepper tree. The inviting ocean view will lure you outside to walk around the Lotus Pond. You can also walk directly from your bedroom into the garden for a nice lunch or visit our Yoga and Meditation temples. This room will inspire you to explore the abundant nature around you or to journey inside.

It is also an excellent space to work-from-paradise, as it features a workspace with a comfortable desk and chair, high-speed fiber-optic internet access and amenities such as a coffee machine in the kitchen. You will have access to all of the Opua House, which features a large kitchen, a comfortable living room with many areas to lounge in, extensive outdoor tables/spaces, and a beautiful sun parlor where you are protected yet feel like you are sitting out in nature.

The Dolphin Room offers:
- Beautiful Ocean View
- Convenient Bamboo Desk
- Close to Kitchen
- Large Closet Space
- Bamboo Lounge Chair
- Faces Outside Pond Deck

ABOUT OUR PROPERTY:
All of our buildings are ecologically built and are adorned with spiritual art and hand-crafted masterpieces from Pacific and Asian countries. You will have a stunning ocean view that invites you to gaze at the moon and seduces you to meditate with the spectacular sunrise. We are surrounded by a lush jungle, ponds, flower gardens, fruit trees, and an easily accessible waterfall that flows into natural pools for swimming, from which you can gaze upon the breath-taking view of the valley.

Our land is a wonderful place to wander and explore: you can take a short walk past our organic garden, agroforestry garden, chickens, bees, countless species of flowers and plants and enter our temples, where you can rest, relax and meditate. For the adventurer, our ocean trail is a moderately challenging cliff trail and that takes about a half hour to get down to the ocean. You will enjoy the wild beauty and the untouched nature of this piece of rural Maui, which is occasionally visited by dolphins and turtles. In the wintertime, the whales can even be spotted breaching from your bed. However, be sure to prepare with a good pair of hiking shoes, some snacks and feel your feet—the trail can be very slippery after a heavy rain.

We offer yoga Monday through Friday mornings with a suggested $10 donation direct to the teacher. We also offer qi gong, shamanic night teaching once a week, meditation, personal coaching, onsite lomi-lomi massage, as well as other special events and activities. If you would like to get married on Maui, Kutira is a licensed wedding officiant by the State of Hawaii and would love to support you in for this special event.

At Maui Eco Retreat You'll Enjoy:
- Being directly next to the ocean
- Beautiful hiking trails
- Waterfall lagoons
- Romantic setting
- Only 15 minutes from town
- Sunrise views
- Yoga and meditation classes

ABOUT OUR LOCATION:
We are situated on the North Shore of Maui, where you can experience the most exquisite sunrise over the ocean! While you can experience off-grid living here, we are just 40 minutes northeast of Kahului airport and 30 minutes from Paia, a wonderful, iconic beach town that is home to fantastic restaurants, boutiques, a health-food grocery store, internet cafés, bank/ATM, post office and lovely sand beaches where you can enjoy walks, picnics, sun, swimming, surfing and turtle watching! Located at the beginning of “The Road to Hana,” we are the ideal starting point for this quintessential Maui sight-seeing experience. We are in the heart of the island—true Hawaii—where you will receive a full, authentic experience of local living that is free from the pressures of tourism.

Late Arrival: Check-in is between 3pm - 6pm. While we prefer that guests check in before 6 pm, we can make an exception if you have a late flight. There is an additional $45 charge for late arrivals between 6pm - 8pm and $65 charge from 8pm to 10pm. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate check-ins after 10pm. Because we are a small, family-owned business, we have to hire an after-hour guest-services person to welcome late-night arrivals. Thank you for understanding!
