Gull Cottage is a charming 1926 gem just three blocks from the famous Turnaround at the end of the Lewis & Clark Trail and the Spectacular Beach where you can clam-dig, surf, fish, swim or build a fire and roast marshmallows. One block from the Cottage is charming Seaside Main Street with all its quaint shops and restaurants, and two blocks to surrey rentals, bike rentals, boat rentals and bumper cars. Just park your car and not drive again until you check out!
Gull Cottage is a 1926 gem, with hot tub, retro kitchen, free WiFi, cozy remote controlled gas fireplace, washer, dryer, nautical, adorable, three blocks to spectacular beach and only one block from the charming main street.
The cottage is ideal for two and can accommodate three. There is only one queen bed, but a third person could use the twin air mattress or sleep on the couch as long as that person knows that it is just a couch and not a sleeper. There is a cozy living room, a table for four, a bathroom with shower, a washer and dryer, a full kitchen with dishwasher, and a large fridge. Very clean, cozy and comfortable. Remote-controlled gas fireplace for instant warmth and romance. Netflix, DVD player with some DVDs. Games, cards, two clam guns, shovel. A NOAA radio to get the latest coastal conditions with the push of a button. Seaside can be stormy in the winter or surprisingly mild and spring like. You just never know. The cottage is across the street from the river and massive salmon this year have been caught on the bridge a block away.
I'm working in Texas right now, but my handyman, Paul, lives next door to the cottage for any emergencies. I am easily reached by phone with any questions or concerns. Paul keeps a watch on things.
Gull Cottage is easily walkable to both the beach and the charming commercial areas. Some houses are walking distance to the beach but not close to the fun or the best shops, cafes, etc. However, at Gull Cottage, you are less than two blocks from the best seafood dinner and the best clam chowder on the coast (Doogers), the best donuts (Dundees), the best gelato (Seastar), bumper cars, at least four great Happy Hours at various establishments, pedal boats for the river, ubiquitous yellow surreys with the fringe on top and laughing people pedaling by the cottage and around this little hamlet by the sea.
You can see the river from the cottage kitchen sink.
The cottage is so centrally located, you might just park your car and not drive again until you check out. That is what I love best about this little place. Close to the beach and the fun or close to serenity.
The first thing people always seem to say when they walk in the cottage is that it feels so beachy. It very much is, in a bygone era sort of way. Windows streaming in light. Bead board walls and ceilings. Open beams in the living room. A white picket fence. A much loved little house that was always owner-occupied. Cheery and bright. Clean and comforting.
If you do want a drive, head north to Astoria about 20 minutes and experience our little mini-San Francisco on hills overlooking the mighty mouth of the Columbia River. Watch ships from all over the world come in while you relax with a beverage at one of the restaurants on the pier. Or head south to the quaint little towns that dot the coastline every few miles and spectacular beaches for year round sunbathing or storm watching depending on Mother Nature's schedule. Never a dull moment on the Oregon Coast.
