Our local food co-op. It's like a Whole Foods: Lots of pricey organics & locally made bread, etc. Park in the garage above it & have your ticket stamped for free parking.

Ferraro's has been here since this was an old Italian neighborhood. Its meat department is legendary--go on a big grilling weekend and you won't soon forget the experience. Great mesclun, too.

Shell & Bones is two blocks from the house and overlooks the water. In warm weather, it's a great place to watch the sunset while you sip 18-year-old rum or enjoy dinner. They also serve a nice brunch.

Our favorite little restaurant in New Haven. It's just a little shoebox with a couple tables and a bar, but the couple that owns it makes everything right in front of you, and the food is local, inventive and fresh. The winterberry salad is a fave.
