Food Scene
It is a restaurant which also does take-away, and the food is excellent Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine. The staff are really friendly :) and it's B.Y.O.B. - there is an off licence nearby ("Bargain Booze") and a Co-op supermarket a little way up the road if you want to buy alcoholic drinks to take in.
If you don't mind walking up the hill, it's probably 15 minutes or less by foot. There is parking a bit further up into Kippax if you prefer to drive.

It's a decent steak / similar restaurant with it's own car park, a short drive from the house. It's part of a chain but I have always had a decent meal and good service there - lots of tables inside too so often not too difficult to get a table.

It's a beautiful nature reserve, now managed by the RSPB. If you go to the visitors' centre and use their facilities you have to pay a small charge but it is free to use the footpaths if you just want to walk around it. The lakes there are full of beautiful birds, now occupying land which used to be an open-cast mine. You can also see "Oddball" - the absolutely enormous open-cast mining machinery that is still on the site!
The footpaths also connect to a walk over to Lemonroyd Marina, and to the Transpennine Trail and Leeds Country Way networks.
