James Beard Award Winning and breathtaking interiors. A little pricey but great on special occasions - like a vacation! Sitting at the bar is a lot of fun watching the chefs prepare meals, but sitting in the dining area gives you a great view of whatever they're firing up in the built-in brick oven. Stunning space, exciting and unique menu, fabulous drinks and desserts.

DOUGHNUTS. Done by Seattle's Renee Erikson (also of Bateau, Whale Winds, etc) the space, service, everything is stunning. The doughnuts are fabulous and are all filled with some extra special sweetness like chocolate marshmallow or lemon curd. At $4.50 each I would budget them into your trip! Also be sure to use the bathroom because, well, it's gorgeous.

Jai Thai is an authentic choice hands down. Everything I've tried is good if you like Thai. We typically do take-out because they're so close! Moderately priced and very filling.

I love Juice Box for healthy juices and meals. They're super inventive and fresh, but a little pricey. Worth it if you're in the mood for something nourishing and unique!

Our all-time favorite spot in Capitol Hill. We came here for brunch our first weekend in Seattle and still go as often as possible. The menu is stable and everything is good, but I recommend the biscuit and eggs, the avocado toast, and the tahini toast! The specials are always so good and the staff is friendly and fun. It's also right in the heart of Capitol Hill and will get you off to a fantastic start for a day walking around and exploring!

Tallulah's serves some of the best brunch in town, from the Eggs Benedict (sometimes you catch a Dungeness Crab edition on special!) to the Corn Beef Hash - trust me it's amazing. The Maple Quinoa Porridge is on the lighter side but equally special and delicious. They also serve a fantastic rosemary lemonade! Just be sure to make a reservation for weekend brunch or get there right at 9am! They're also a treat for dinner on the weeknights. The setting is right for romance or for groups depending on what company you're bringing along!

MiiR is all about it's philanthropy project to provide clean water, bikes, and education to people in need around the world. It's a fantastic model, and they're all about community. It's a taproom, coffee shop, and all around great space to hang out, work, or shop their ecologically and socially conscious flagship line of goods. It's more affordable that nearby Milstead for just a cup of joe, but I'd still go to Milstead for coffee and MiiR for the beers, ciders, and kombuchas on tap.

Now, I am not much of a tourist even when we travel, but most people make a visit to Pike's Place. I'm an ex baker and forever macaron fanatic and this place is the best in town for simple, blissful buttercream. Also good for beautiful baguettes and French treats. The coffee is blah.

Spacious, delicious, close to the most historic area of Seattle, the lovely Pioneer Square. Pastries come directly from nearby London Plane which is also worth stepping into for the beautiful interiors and more sweets, or an upscale meal. Elm also roasts in the back of house, so if you catch them on roast days you can see the equipment in action and smell the magic happening.

One of the best shops I've ever been to as far as knowledge and passion for the technical side of coffee. Their deconstructed espresso is an experience, so be prepared to give it some time. Their chocolate candied oranges and strawberry and cream croissants go fast but are divine little bites. The Ballard location is their first and the tiniest so weekends can be busy. Worth it.

Two words: Bison Burger. Even my half-vegetarian heart can't resist a bite. Their cocktails are delicious little works of art, and the small plates are the perfect cocktail snack. More on the posh and pricey side, but perfect for a romantic night or cool happy hour. They also have a fabulous brunch.

Hands down our favorite shot in town. You are always treated like a friend at Milstead, and their pastries fresh from Macrina Bakery are top notch. Basic third wave brews are anything but basic and served smooth and speedy from their aeropress bar.

Plant based ice cream? Yes, please. With an inventive flavor palate and better-for-you alternative ingredients like coconut milk Frankie & Jo's is an at least must-try. Just go try a sample and tell me you aren't in love. Favorite scoops include California Cabin, Chocolate Date for those of us watching our sugar, and whatever is seasonal.

Excellent up-scale grocer. Super clean, wide selection, excellent meat and produce. Olive bar, sushi selection, great prepared hot and cold foods.

Not too far away by car or bus, Fred Myer is like the Kroger of the Northwest. They do have a sizable home section that feels a little more like Wal-Mart. It's more affordable than organic or co-op grocers so it's a safe bet if you're not looking for organic radicchio.

Love PCC. It's like a smaller, better Whole Foods that's employee and community owned. They have a great prepared foods section if you're looking for something more than a snack! Parking is in a deck below or back in parking down N34th.

Shopping

Glasswing is a highly curated shopping experience. If you're familiar with the likes of Ace & Jig and Apolis, this is the place for you. They carry a healthy selection of menswear (at least 50% of the shop is mens), Aesop and local Herbivore Botanicals skincare, as well as plants, jewelry, and Gestalten books. Love this place, wish I could afford everything in it, but they're often running sales and the owners are always around to help you make a selection that's right for you.

Parks & Nature

Less than a mile away and visible from our back porch, Lake Union is a local luxury. Take a walk down to the pier, watch the sea planes land and take off, or visit the Center for Wooden Boats for a little history lesson. If you're feeling adventurous boat rides are available.
