A really nice little bakery with a wide selection of classic Danish and French pastries, cakes and breads. You have to try their Hindbærsnitte! It’s a little sweet treat with raspberry (hindbær) jam between pastry. Mejlgade 5.

Located 2 min from our apartment. An Australian café with lots of smashed avo food. Our go-to-place for croissants – they might be the best in town actually. They serve breakfast and lunch everyday (monday + Tuesday: closed) and during weekends they have their Weekend brekkie menu, which is really good. Try their ricotta pancakes! Ceresbyen 20

Food

This might be our favorite place – we come here a lot. They serve one simple, rustic and typically Danish dish every night for aprox. 85kr (which is cheap). Have it with a Thy Pilsner (beer) on the side. It’s very cosy and relaxed. Turns into a bar at night. They also serve breakfast. Vestergade 50.

If you are here a Sunday you should try their Sunday brunch! It’s fantastic! It might seem a bit expensive (225kr) but it’s a buffet where they make fresh egg dishes, pancakes, and all drinks (coffee, fresh orange juice and cremant) are included. The staff is really relaxed and friendly and sometimes they ask you for help to sable their cremant. (Remember to book a table in advance). Their dinner at evening is typically French. This is a really big place to explore – it’s the cultural melting pot in Aarhus consisting of the big café Spiselauget, the big hall with occasional markets (Den Rå Hal), theater and outside is a start up area with a several quirky concepts. This is also a place for people dressing up as Vikings to hang out (!) I think they practice their viking skills at saturdays.

This is actually the city’s main public library, but it is so much more than that. It’s a place for families to hang out and play, great for working at studying and there is always many events taking place. From here you can take a nice walk at the harbor area. Remember to visit ‘Havnepladsen’ where there is a playful water fountain where it is nice to chill and hang out for families and students. Hackkampmannsplads 2.

Shopping

At ‘Strøget’ you can find the high street shops. At ‘Latinerkvarteret’/The Latin Quarter you will find a really nice selection of smaller shops – this is also the area for a lot of our favorite cafees. It’s really nice to go for walk here. Remember to also take a look at Jægergaardsgade and Vestergade, both are really nice with shops and cafees as well.
