FOOD: They offer a short list of quintessential sandwiches, including grilled meats. My favorite: The Bronx (grilled turkey&cheese). Also, legendary fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies that have been known to walk themselves into your mouth. DRINK: Sodas on tap or in cans. AMBIANCE: Small café, seating upstairs loft, or outside on sidewalk. Great friendly staff.

DIFFICULTY: Strenuous, not for family with children. Trail is steep and narrow at times, and has some exposed drop-offs that could unnerve some hikers. JURISDICTION: Oregon State Parks / Oregon Parks and Recreation Department. FEE: none. FROM THE ALOHACIENDA: About 20 minute drive. I-84 to exit #56, then return back on I-84 to get off on Exit #58.

Over the last 10 years, the City of Hood River has been thoughtfully developing the riverfront area, and now you get to enjoy it! Walkaways, grassy lawns, park benches, plus cool climbing rocks for kids (and youthful adults!). Pizzeria, burger joint, breweries, and a coffee shop all offer great food and service in this area. FROM THE ALOHACIENDA: You can go through downtown Hood River, make a left on 2nd Street and go over the Freeway....or get back on I-84 Exit #62 and drive east to Exit #63 onto 2nd Street, head North to the riverfront. then left on Portway Ave.
