The oldest lake in Bucharest. Its name comes from “cismea” which is turkish for water well. In the 1700s the “cismigii” were special people that used to carry water from the lake and then sell it to people living in Bucharest. The famous island in the middle of the lake was home to villans, thiefs and criminals who were hiding there in order to escape from the police.

Did you know that 200 years ago, this church was the only building that was constructed in this area? Cismigiu Park, Sala Palatului and other landmarks were not constructed yet and on their place were vineyards.

This palace was built for the first king of Romania, king Charles I. Charles was German coming from the Hohenzollern family. Now it is home of the Museum of Art.

Also, there are historical buildings all around the city center like the old Marmorosch-Blank Bank, the National Bank of Romania, Stavropoleus Church, Romanian History Museum, CEC Bank building, Palatul Voievodal Curtea Veche an so on...Lots of things to see and enjoy!
