Neighborhoods
A wonderful neighbourhood that's located in the heart of the city's West End, Hillhead is understandably popular with all sections of the community. It's rightly regarded as one of the more fashionable neighbourhoods of Glasgow, it's G12 postcode being much coveted.
The University of Glasgow is located nearby, having moved here back in 1870, so the area is also home to a very international student population.
Getting from A to B in the centre of the city is easy if you use the Subway. It runs on a loop to the north and south of the River Clyde, stopping at 15 strategically placed stations along the way. It's estimated that around 35,000 people use the network on a daily basis, although even at peak times travel is still relatively comfortable for the many office workers and professionals who live here.
From the Gothic spire of Glasgow University tower to the greenery of Kelvingrove, the bustle of Byres Road and the oh-so-hip Finnieston, it’s true that Hillhead and the surrounds have it going on in abundance.

Classic example of a Victorian park, designed by Sir Joseph Paxton, and which measures 34 hectares (85 acres). Its set on the banks of the River Kelvin, and is (in my opinion) the best park in Glasgow.
Depending on time of day / year, you may find joggers, cyclists, students, dog walkers, skaters and barbecuers all using this wonderfully green space, and the Kelvin walkway cuts right through the park.
It's just two minutes walk from the flat, past the bars and restaurants in Gibson street, the entrance is opposite Eusebi's deli.

Formerly Kelvinside Parish Church, Òran Mór (literally ‘big song’) has a solid reputation as a cultural/arts centre – it contains a theatre (a nightclub at weekends), two restaurants and a notable whisky bar with a traditional ‘island’ counter, wooden fixtures, bare stone and various artworks around the walls. The food is good enough to attract all comers, while there are a couple of real ales for the beer aficionado. As for the celebrated whisky list, it has well over 200 choices including premium names such as a fine 30-year-old Highland Park from Orkney and a gorgeous 25-year-old Talisker from Skye. Previous guests have told me they loved this place!
