Our favourite places for food & drinks

Fantastic food & drink and a great atmosphere. This is our favourite local pub! We recommend that you book a table if you would like to eat in the restaurant as they are usually very busy. You can also buy food from the bar menu on the pub side of the building - it is a simpler menu, but still wonderful food. They often have live music/events - check their Facebook page for details of things coming up soon.

Delicious food and drink, with indoor and outdoor seating. In Truro city centre. Perfect if you want to indulge. We recommend the ‘big kahuna’ burger or the beef brisket burger.

Fantastic Sunday Roast - huge portions! And an incredible dessert counter with a vast array of delicious puddings. We usually end up getting pudding to take home as we are too full after the roast. Lovely, well stocked farm shop and nice walks around the farm

We have been here a few times (on special occasions as it is not cheap!) and have always had the tasting menu. The food is incredible, plus a lovely atmosphere and beautiful views over Watergate Bay. It is worth asking if they will be able to seat you by the window when you book, so you can make the most of the views.

Take-Away Food

Local favourites that you don’t find everywhere else!
The best fish and chips around. Very generous portions/great value. N.B. - they only take cash payments.

Fantastic Mexican food to take away. Generous portions and so tasty! There is a Habaneros in Truro and one on Falmouth high street, both highly recommend. Grab lots of napkins if you’re getting a burrito or fajita to take away - they are so well filled that things can get messy!

A great day out with or without children, but there are lots of things for children to do (farm animals, petting zoo, tractor rides etc). Free entry to the site. The brewery tour is very good and tasting of all the products is included in the price of the tour. Lovely gift shop selling products made on site - including jams and chutneys as well as alcohol

Just round the corner from the house (part of the Gwel An Mor site). You can walk past and see some of the animals for free, but there are also lots more inside the wildlife centre building, which has an entry fee. With paid entry you will meet the resident wildlife and learn all about the animals. According to the website you must pre-book if you want to do this. A great day out with children and there are plenty of inside areas if the weather isn’t so good. Entry cost for a family can be quite expensive - you can often find vouchers in summer leaflets for a bit of money off. There are some leaflets containing vouchers in the basket in the back bedroom.

Sightseeing - our recommendations

Places we would most recommend visiting to get the most out of your visit to Cornwall.
Beautiful tidal island with a climb up to a medieval castle and church. There are gardens as well. At the base of the island is a village and harbour, still inhabited by a small community of around 30 people. Great views and very interesting local history. It is all owned by the National Trust, so entry fees apply if you are not a member. The castle, shops, cafes and garden have individual opening times (so check in advance before setting off), but all are closed on Saturdays.

Incredible views and a great place for walking. There are also several other attractions which are popular with visitors - they change from time to time so it is best to look online to see what is currently on - https://landsend-landmark.co.uk/ Just over an hours drive from Portreath, we would recommend going on a day when the weather is good to get the most from this area of outstanding natural beauty.
