Incredible views of Manhattan along the waterfront in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Cobblestone streets and converted old factory buildings make a popular backdrop for photos. Good restaurants, shopping is more high-end.

Off-the-beaten-path Brooklyn waterfront neighborhood. The neighborhood is more sparsely populated, so some people might not feel comfortable walking around at night. Van Brundt Street is the main drag.

Just north of Williamsburg, more like what Willamsburg used to be like before it got super expensive. Great restaurants (my favorite is Glasserie), hip boutiques and vintage shops.

I-Brooklyn Bridge Park
334 Furman StBest views in the city.
This is a new-ish park/promenade that was once an elevated train line. Goes from Gansevoort in the Meatpacking District (food halls, hip bars, clubs and high-end shopping, the Whitney), through Chelsea, ending at 34th Street.

A great way to see the sunset. I think if you reserve in advance it's free? Otherwise you can stand in line or pay $10 to skip the line. (Tip: The Zara and H&M in the new shopping center behind the Vessel are massive, more like high-end department stores, and completely dead.)

Park
This is the entrance to Prospect Park, a 526-acre park three blocks from the apartment. It's a wonderful park that caters to residents, by the same landscape architects as Central Park, but they considered this one their crown jewel :) Grand Army Plaza has a farmer's market on Saturdays.

Conveniences
Things in the neighborhood that are useful. Other places that wouldn't populate:
- Lucky L&W Laundromat on Union between 6th and 7th for self-wash and same day drop-off (this service is very cheap in NYC and they do hang dry)
- Spa on 7th, at the end of my block, very good inexpensive massage
