Neighborhoods
You can walk to anything in Waikiki from white sand beaches to top rated restaurants. There is plenty of shopping and sightseeing as the aquarium and zoo are within walking distance. You can find plenty of open space at Kapiolani Park, world class surfing at Canoes Beach and the best weather on the entire island.
If you plan to stay only in Waikiki you will not need a car. If you would like to explore other beaches or towns there are a few options: rent a car for your entire stay from a rental company or Hui Car Share which allows you to rent a car for as little as 1 hour a day. Either way this unit comes with covered, garage parking.

Pack Casual
Hawai'i is very laid back. Make sure to pack flip flops (slippers) or sneakers if you plan on hiking as well as light clothing for the day. The nights can get breezy so a long sleeve or sweatshirt is good to have.
It is always good to be prepared for rain. It can rain without warning or can be sunny on one side of the island and pouring on the other side so if you're traveling outside of Waikiki check the weather and be prepared.
