Exploring the area

The name means "hidden beach”. To reach Playa Escondida you'll need to do a 25-minute walk from Seven Seas Beach through a mangrove trail. It haves some natural pools. It is part of the nature reserve called Corredor Ecológico del Noreste, featuring a few miles of undeveloped coastline. From March to July it becomes a nesting area for the endangered leatherback turtles, the largest turtle in the world. It is my favorite beach in the area.

It’s a beautiful secluded beach on the way to Playa Escondida. It is less than 1 mile walk from Seven Seas Beach on a well stablished trail. The beach has reddish sand hence the name “Playa Colorá”. Not a lot of out of town people know about it. The surf is frequently high so it’s not the best beach for swimming but the privacy, the view and the sound of waves crashing is worth the short detour. *It use to be spot used by some locals for sunbathing in their birthday suits.

Prettiest beach in Fajardo. Just a short boat ride away. You can schedule a private or shared charter to get there. You can also use a “boat taxi” out of Las Croabas area.

Located in Río Grande, a 15-20 min drive from Fajardo, El Yunque is the only tropical rainforest that is part of the U.S. National Forest System. The forest receives over 120 inches of rain every year. Home to more than 240 types of trees, unique birds, native species like the coquí frog, and beautiful scenery, the forest spans 28,000 acres of land that includes 25 waterfalls, several rivers, and ancient petroglyphs of Taíno deities. It’s a must see when visiting the island.

Good for breakfast/ brunch. Gladys (the owner) is always there to greet you and make sure everything is to your satisfaction. I recommend choosing arepas instead of the bread, it’s a delicious local option.

Fajardo’s Lighthouse -Las Cabezas de San Juan

To have access to the local lighthouse and enjoy it’s majestic views you’re required to book a tour on the webpage “Para La Naturaleza”. The tour includes a trolley ride thru the surrounding mangroves guided by local biologists.

Renting a car is strongly recommended.

Fajardo can be quiet during the week.

Fajardo receives a lot of visitors during the weekends and sometimes the music gets a little loud. Weekdays are usually very quiet and some of the restaurants take a day or two off.
