Princess's Sissy famous big palace! Marvelous place to walk and enjoy its gardens !
( In 1876, Sissy travelled on her own to Athens and Corfu and threw herself into a study of ancient Greek literature especially of Homer. She also took a keen interest in the excavations being carried out at the time by Heinrich Schliemann in Troy, Mycenae and Tiryns. After a long trip to Troy and many other parts of the ancient Greek world, she returned to Corfu in 1888 and stayed as a guest in the Vrailas villa. A year later, Sissy bought the estate and began work on the construction of the palace : )

The fortress was built first by the Byzantines and was completed by the (Venetian: Fortezza Vecchia) and the British.
Is built on a rocky peninsula with two characteristic hills (top) and is the eastern end of the city. The location of the peninsula lies to the east of the ancient city of "Corcyra", between the Gulf of Corfu to the north and the Gulf of Garitsa to the south. This location was an ideal choice as it allowed easy access to the maritime network and full control of the neighboring coasts, while high fortifications in combination with the artificial moat made it impossible for any raider to access.
It is very well preserved and offers fantastic views to the visitors!
Near there is the bay of Garitsa. Some say that Odysseus himself landed here, though others dispute whether Corfu is the same as the island of Phaeacs and the last stop of Odysseus before his final destination at Ithaca.

The church of Saint Spyridon was initially built in Sarocco sqare, Corfu Town. However, in 1590 it was erected in its present location. The architecture of the church is typical of the Venetian architecture that dominates the Old Town of Corfu. Its bell tower is the highest in town. Saint Spyridon is considered the keeper of Corfu. According to legend, he has saved the island four times from the Ottoman invasion, one of the reasons that this church is so beloved.. Spyridon, often shortened to Spyros, is very common name on the island and the locals will still refer to their saint protector in an oath. The church, which is located just behind Liston, holds the supposed remains of the saint.

In a 1960s building, the Corfu Archaeological Museum displays archaeological finds from sites across the island, most notably from Kanoni, Corfu's ancient capital. The most important exhibit is the 17-meter-long Gorgon Pediment from the sixth-century-BC Temple of Artemis at Kanoni. Fully intact, it depicts a demonic-looking Medusa wearing a belt of intertwined serpents and flanked by a panther to each side.

THE BEST ZEA* S BREAD IN CORFU & MANY MORE...
ZEA* is: a Greek bread made from "zea's grain ofcourse: )," as it is known in Greek. The bread is generally chewy and lightweight, with higher dietary fiber content than wheat bread.
The grain is thought to have an ancient, if not prehistoric, history in the region. Furthermore, classical texts reference a grain called "zea" or "zeia." Homer used the Greek word zeidoron (ζείδωρον), which comes from "zea," . Dioscorides wrote that Greeks and Romans prepared krimnon, made from ground zea and wheat berries, to make poltos, a porridge-like drink. According to legend, Alexander the Great consumed zea bread to maintain his strength. The medieval harbor at Piraeus, which was named Zea Marina, was potentially named after the grain : )
