Closest and recommended beaches
https://goo.gl/maps/PpojyvLr9yMphJpNA
Closest, but smallest beach - 5 minutes. Just drive right down Prince Charles Drive to the edge of the island. Not heavily frequented, but local families go there often. Great for kids as it is quite shallow for a ways out. Placid water. Also has a sidewalk where you can walk along the coast for a bit.

Multiple shallow inlets and is next to a historic fort. Good for kids with shallow water, lots of shade. Not a large sand beach, but pleasant. Downside: it is just down the road from the open fish market, so if the wind is blowing the wrong way it can get smelly. You can go snorkeling here and see fish and very small limited coral reefs.

This is the most spectacular beach on New Providence with lots of sand. It is the same beach shared by Atlantis (which you can walk down the beach to.) You park in the public area on Ocean Club Dr (Follow signs to Public Beach Access). Keep $2 handy as that is the toll to cross over the bridge onto Paradise Island. The water gets deep quickly. Not a good place to snorkel because it is all pure white sand.

Rent a car
There is no Uber or Lyft in the Bahamas. Taxi rides are usually a minimum of $20 pretty much anywhere. The bus system, while safe and constantly running, does not go everywhere and does not keep to a specific timetable.

Phones;
US and European cell service does work here, but you will be charged International Rates. I suggest checking in with your provider to see what plans they have available for traveling in The Bahamas. You will be able to use WiFi calling from the apartment and most places of business have a guest WiFi, nevertheless, in the street you won’t have access to your data.

Sticker Shock - Money
You will find pretty much any thing you need to buy, but it will be 50 - 100% more than the U.S. Also, bring cash, because the ATM’s will charge $5-$8 for each withdrawal. Most places accept Debit / Credit, but you are likely to pay International Service fees.
