Lovely local and regional food, great also with kids, to enjoy quality food while they’re kept busy waiting with apple slices and dark chocolate and drawing kit. Brilliant terrace to sit outside with good weather.

This indoor/outdoor museum is amazing for kids. It has only recently been renovated and you can see life size Viking ships and really experience what it was like in the outdoor Viking village. You can get there by car in 30min from the house and it easily makes for a whole day of fun!

Arnis is the smallest town in Germany, with just one street and it’s right by the water. You can have lunch or just coffee overlooking the beautiful Schlei. It’s easy by bike (the bike path is directly opposite the house), or by car. There’s a ferry to cross over to the other side.

An entire village of lovely thatched houses, you instantly get that holiday feeling walking around there, or making a little picnic stop by the lake. You can get there in 15min by bike and the bike path is right along the water.

Wonderful town with a lot of regional history. There’s the Harbour with several restaurants at the water front, but also a large pedestrian area with various little shops.
For interior lovers -
@lundundlarsen und @snoeflinga are great finds.
You can also find all your holiday essentials like eg a good bookshop, a pharmacy and there’s an organic shop (Reformhaus) too.
And you can book boat trips at the Harbour or a ride on an old steam train.
Market day is Thursday mornings- small but with all the stalls you need: fish, flowers, vegetables, cheese, meat, bread and a few extras.

Weather in the north of Germany
It’s always a good idea to pack wind breakers or rain gear, just to be safe. In the summer of course it’s another matter, but seeing that you’re close to the sea it can always be windy.
