Eating Outside, a real daytime treat.
ALFRESCO DINING LIST:
There are lots of nice options for dining outdoors during the day. It's always cheaper to eat out at lunchtime. It's almost never warm enough to sit outside at night. It's hard to beat the garden here on a sunny day.
For really special Al Fresco dining, try The Duck at Marlfield House Hotel. Gorgeous terrace and garden. The Duck at Marlfield is expensive, but a real treat for your holiday. It's on the Courtown Road just outside Gorey Y25DK23. Book a table in advance. Be prepared for a long wait and sometimes poor service.
Coffee 4 You is my favourite café in Arklow. It's on the riverbank and has an outdoor area although I usually prefer it inside. Excellent food at very affordable prices. They roast their own coffee beans. Great homemade soup each day. Exceptional value. You can find it at River Walk, Arklow, Co. Wicklow, Y14 N202.
Mount Usher Gardens in Ashford is a must visit and the courtyard has a nice eating area for a picnic or food from the Avoca Deli and food shop.
Avoca Handweavers in Avoca village has lovely outdoor tables. It's self service but a really nice experience and you can pay a visit to the weaving sheds.
Woodenbridge Hotel and Lodge for lunch or dinner. A lovely drive over back roads. This place is important if you golf!
For Gorey Daytime eats, most main street cafes now have outdoor tables. Gorey is a bustling town. Off the main street you'll find The Hungry Bear Café which has tables on the footpath and fewer cars passing.
The Strand Pub at Cahore is a great spot for the kids with the pier and beach right there. Wonderful outdoor tables overlooking the beach.
The Lavender Farm is the closest option at Coolnagloose, Inch Y25NW42. They have a very nice outside courtyard. Haven't been this season but in previous years the food was disappointing but the place nice! Perhaps start with a coffee...
I really like Glenmalure for a long walk through the glen followed by traditional food at the lodge. Open fires if it's cold and outside tables if it's warm.

Portions huge, one bag of chips is enough for two/three at least. We like their chicken fillet burgers in particular. Now doing pizza too though I prefer pizza from Proper pizza in Arklow.

I love the atmosphere here, it's always busy, always open (daytime) and has great coffee. A favourite with the locals. If you like an iconic café, this is it. Street eating too but you make a trip inside for the loos or to look at the produce. Portions are huge.

The village shop. Has the basics, Denise is the manager and a good friend of mine. The prices are a little higher than town but it's convenient and local and friendly! The best bread is made by STAFFORDS and can be bought here.

For visitors who want to see Dublin without the worry of traffic and parking. Direct buses to Wexford town too.

Ask for a 'Day Return' for the best price. Discounts are available for students, children and seniors with I.D cards. Buses are on the half hour.
