Great place 'across the street' to pick up food for home or eat in at the communal tables. I especially like the Vinoteca and you can order food from their food stall just outside. Closed on Mondays.

Wonderful no frills restaurant and winebar in the arches in Bermondsey. No reservations and check opening times before you go. It is a organic wine wholesaler with very nice food but do not expect white table cloths and proper seating. One of my favorites.

SPRING RESTAURANT Fantastic food in a beautiful room. This is a bit more high end restaurant with excellent produce. It is located in the new wing of Somerset House. Best to book to avoid disappointment. Do not miss selection of ice creams for dessert. Located on the 32nd floor of the Shard, with panoramic views across the London skyline, Rainer Becker’s Oblix offers a contemporary, sophisticated yet relaxed dining experience. Do not miss the music in the bar in the evenings. There is dress code and age requirements so please check their website and make sure you book.

Great food with good prices. Usually you can drop in and if they are full you can try Hixter just up the street.

A speak-easy in the basement in the middle of the street. It is located in an old public lavatory. Nice drinks - open late.

This pub is a gem. Rather hidden but with excellent wines by the glass and beers. Plenty of nibbles and some food which I have not tried - yet.

My favourite bar in Soho. Make sure you book if you want to be seated as it is very small and very popular. Italian bar with excellent but small drinks list. The Negroni is their speciality.

Entertainment & Activities

A very secluded place. Great to bring a bit older children. Check details on their website before you go. Dennis Severs’ House at 18 Folgate Street, Spitalfields is more than just a time capsule. It is both a breathtaking and an intimate portrait of the lives of a family of Huguenot silk-weavers from 1724 to the dawn of the 20th Century. As you follow their fortunes through the generations, the sights, smells and sounds of the house take you into their lives. It was Dennis Severs’ intention that as you enter his house it is as if you have passed through the surface of a painting, exploring with your senses and imagination a meticulously crafted 18th Century world.

Excellent food market but can be very crowded on the week-end. Stop for empanadas if you run out of steam...
