Sightseeing

It’s on the doorstep! Step out and start to explore. When in Richmond, if you are heading downhill you will probably meet the river. There are great riverside walks, we are even on the coast-to-coast footpath if you want to do a stretch of it. (We recommend the way to Reeth in Swaledale) Easby Abbey is one of our favourite short round walks, and you can stop at the converted Station for a drink or a freshly made ice cream. Don’t miss the excellent Angel’s Share bakery too. On hot days you’ll find lots of people swimming in the river. It’s lovely!

Even if you aren’t here for the festival, head up the dale for real Yorkshire Dales beauty. There are buses, a beautiful car journey or head out on the coast-to -coast footpath! Reeth is worth a visit and not too far, or go further to the Buttertubs, or as far as the highest pub in England at Tan Hill.

Food scene

Have an explore of the centre of town, around the Market Place. (Outdoor Markets every Saturday and Wednesday) There’s loads of places to eat. Some of our favorites are Rustique, Duncan’s Tearooms (both on Finkle Street) and Jefferson’s a tiny deli at the bottom of the Market Place, but you will find your own favorites too! The best pork pie (!) in town is from The Noted Pie shop. The best bakery in town (we think) is Angel’s Share down at the Station (worth a visit on its own - tiny shops including brewery, ice cream and sweet shop, and art displays, cinema, bar/cafe). For groceries, there is a large supermarket (Lidl) but if you want to do the local thing, use Ken Warne for general, Neeps and Tatties for fruit and veg if you miss the Market, the Cheesy Grin at the Market for cheese, Angus Morton butcher, Wilfred Deli (Finkle Street) and Jefferson’s at the bottom of the Market Place.
